What is the story on this guy? He was one of the top players in our 2005 class and then had some issue with admission or something. What is the story on him now? I heard he was still having complications. Is he eligible to play this year or is he having to red-shirt or what?

Also, when he finally does get to play...Will he be a DE or OLB?

Anthony is doing fantastic. He is now up to 6-4, 235 lbs. and if he gets much bigger he could be a DE. Right now he is looking great at LB.

This extra time has given him more time to prepare academically....and talk about shaping up like a Greek god from a physical standpoint from the weightroom!

There was a technicality in a class that Cartersville transfered from a 9th grade class he took at Adairsville that the lovely NCAA took exception to...thus saying he has to sit out this fall unfortunately.

He will be a BIG contributor 2007 through 2010.

AT Barnes would be starting this year for GT if he could play. Hiveredtech is right, the guy is a greek god and I feel sorry for our opponents and the Scout Team Offense when he is unleashed next year. He'll come out playing like a Seasoned Veteran.

Guyton, Wheeler, and Barnes starting in 2007. We will be deep at LB.

Deep at LB in 2007? That statement makes a lot of assumptions. I don't see ANY proven depth.

True. MY statement is based on potential.

Wheeler will be a senior in 2007 and he is the best player on Defense this year. Guyton has shown signs of being great. I'm guessing that AT Barnes will be at least solid but if everything they say about him is true then you're probably looking at the best LB we've had since Darryl Smith and possibly Keith Brooking.

After those three the depth is:
Travis Chambers Senior in 2007
Matt Braman Junior in 2007
Talib Tucker Junior in 2007 possibly could be a starter
Shane Bowen Sophmore or Redshirt Frosh in 2007
Osahon Tongo Soph or Redshirt Frosh
Sedric Griffin Soph or Redshirt Frosh in 2007 maybe a SS in college though due to size.

Then you got incoming Freshman Kyle Jackson AND Brad Jefferson as incoming Frosh.

Chambers has always been a player but apparently took a long time to understand the system. He got some good minutes last year. Tucker they say is poised to compete for starting time. Bowen is Tenuta's recruit and based on his video can flat out hit some people. Tongo was probably our best recruit in last year's class. Griffin is small but has the same type of background as Vance Walker. His size is the only reason he didn't have offers from every major school in the country. He's 5-10 to 5-11 and weighs 220lbs and was the MVP of the SC Shrine Bowl Game. The kid is a player, but probably more suited to play SS.

Lots of potential for 2007.

I don't mean to sound like I'm arguing with you; I am always hesistant to say anything negative about current SA's.

I absolutely agree with you about Barnes, but he will be a starter baring unforeseen cirumstances, and the issue is depth.

I'll just say that I am hopeful that Tucker, Tongo, Jackson and Jefferson have the athletic ability and speed to follow the legacy of Key Fox, Smith, and Hall. However, I don't see the true freshmen providing meaningful depth in 2007.

Without a doubt, Barnes, Bowen, Griffin, Tongo, and Jefferson have loads of speed.

I don't get this. We've got a rich history of true freshmen LBs playing a lot and doing extremely well. Why not any of these kids? The truth about college football is you're constantly retooling. There may not be a reason to think freshmen will be stars right off the bat, but there's also no reason to think they won't.

.

As a former resident of Cartersville, now a member of Adairsville, I can tell you that Anthony Barnes will be one of the best athletes on our team next year. That kid is an absolute stud. He will be dominant. You should have no worries. I think he has the potential to be one of our best LB's ever. Hard worker.

He is going to be a VERY good one.

I've played against AT Barnes in football. He is narsty. He took back an INT 70 to beat us in the state playoffs...

I saw Tucker play Last spring. Believe me he is a PLAYER. If Guyton stays ahead of him, he will have to be very, very GOOD. And I do believe there is A LOT of ability among the young guys.

So, you could say that Mr. Barnes will be a frosh next year and will be coming in along with the current class that we're recruiting. Stinks now but AWESOME for the future!!
