Anti-ACC Feelings

I really have been hot about this bowl selection. I am a Tech fan and I want my athletes and school to get what they deserve. They deserved a bowl no lower than Charlotte. NC State's wins over E Ky and MTSU to overcome a 3-5 conference record to get to 6-5 overall speaks for itself - they should be at the bottom of the picking order.

Everyone wants to deny blame. Swofford - we have nothing to do with this, it's the bowl selection committees. Bowls - the schools made better bids and presentations to us. Braine - not our fault. We did what we should do.

All the while State, Duke, and NCSU fans are making all kinds of fun of GT up here in Raleigh today. Why? Because they know their buddies from State got more than they earned and we got less and although everone knows this is how the ACC works they wink and grin and deny this is true.

We are in a conference where the 3rd place bowl slot would prefer not to have us because we are local and the 5th bowl slot would prefer not to have us because we are not local and the new tie-in next year claims UVA for crying out loud, travels better than we do, which is an out and out statistical lie.

Any truth that Florida would love out of the SEC and go the ACC? If so, I say let's swap. I like our chances in an SEC East of the Dawgs, UT, SC, Vandy, and UK.

I hear that there was some rumbling of the LSU-UGA loser falling all the way to Shreveport if the bowls had their way and the SEC office and AD's stepped in and said, "No, our division winners deserve better." That's the way a conference that represents 12 equally acts, unlike the "Tobacco Road" office in Greensboro.

Truly stabbed in the back by the ACC. Swofford sucks.

By hook or crook, somehow get back in the SEC.

The SEC doesn't take any special steps to protect the SEC championship game loser. Arkansas has been screwed twice: in 1995 they lost the SECC game and went to the Carquest Bowl and in 2002 they lost it and went to the Music City Bowl.

What we need is some rules about which teams bowls are allowed to take, and Swofford claims we will have some starting next year.

Bravo! Well said. You know there will be conference realignments in the future. If the ACC prefers not to take care of their members, they will seriously weaken the conference. The ACC HAS been serioulsy weakened by this bowl debacle. If I were BC I would serious re-evaluate. The future does not look good for them. To a lesser degree I think the same for GT. We need to consider our options...

Well, if you want to bank anything on the word of swofford, bee my guest.

I want nothing more than to be out of the ACC. I don't care that much for basketball. It is a nice diversion while I await spring practice.

Florida will never be out of the SEC and, if they were, I don't think I'd like a SEC without Florida. As much as I want to be in the SEC, it will never happen. We buttered our bread about 40 years ago and we have suffered for it since. We will never get respect in the ACC. We get respect on from Alabama, Auburn, Florida and a few other SEC schools from time to time when they start talking about who they wish were in the SEC.

I guess state fans can't travel beyond the range of their snapper mowers for a game. I hope USF gives them hell. I care not for the ACC in total. I feel bad for BC for getting dragged into a situation where 8-3 is going to get you a crappy bowl. I like Clemson. Miami is OK. The rest can go to hell.

This crap has been going on for 50 years. South Carolina got out of the ACC more than 30 years ago for these very reasons. Yet, when I have posted the observation in the past that the ACC screws us, I have been ridiculed.

Maybe some people are seeing the light. The ACC needs us, but they don't want us.

The ACC sucks because it is actually the NCC, and you know what 'NC' stands for. I had that opinion 30 years ago, and nothing has changed my mind.

Things won't change until basketball stops paying the bills in the ACC. UNC and Duke are the big BB money generators, and as long as they are, they will call the shots. If things change, it will be a long time from now. The fact that the NC schools plus UVa are in the minority makes no difference; it is BB revenues that give power.

Don't you think that with all the BCS bowls, and big bowls before the BCS, that FSU has been to, that FSU might rival the $$ of UNC and Duke?

I have no facts, just wondering, but it seems realistic to me.....

Otherwise I don't disagree with your post.

To each his own, JJ. This is not a flame, or an argument, just a statement of highly personal opinion. I think college basketball is the greatest spectator sport going, and March Madness the single greatest event. I'd stay in the ACC just for that, though I am also proud of the conference academically (especially as compared to the average SEC school...i.e., not Vanderbilt), and also in terms of class. It's a matter of time until the football ranks among the best in the country top-to-bottom, too. If the only real problem is leadership - i.e., Swofford and his crew - then why throw out the baby with the bathwater? Let the member schools get rid of him instead.
