the SEC back when? How many teams were in the SEC at that time? Why we left? Why we joined ACC? If anyone remembers, I'd appreciate answers. Thanks.

We helped form the conference in 1897. won and/or shared the title in 99, 02, 05, 06, 09, 12, 17, 18, 19, 20, 22, 24, 27, 28, 29, 31, 33, 34, 37, 38, 42, 43, 44, 48, 50, 51, 52, 55, and 56.
We got out because we were bored with the other teams in the conference.
We joined the ACC because Bobby Cremins told us to.

I thought that we were an independant until 1921 when we joined the Southern Conference.
 
Yellow Falcon, you are correct.Tech was a charter member of the old southern conference as was most all the major schools south of the mason-dixon line. They were also a charter member of the SEC
after these schools dropped out of the southern conference to join the new league in 1933. There were originally 13 members in the SEC.
 
Thanks for your help, guys/gals. It still amazes me that since we were an integral part since conception of SEC that we would leave. I cannot figure. What is Goldtimer's site? I will wait til I see a post from him, I guess.

I guess that it pays to thoroughly read all posts. Its a shame that a poster can't get a straight up answer on a legitmate question.
 
No hard feelings, Coach. I suppose that given my previous post, I would be considered a hipocrite considering my response to the what is a "wahoo" question under the "Why are we favored" thread.
