1st team All-ACC with 120 tackles.

Just goes to show you that you cannot go by high school measurables completely...great indicators...but you have to play the game of football.

Combine:
Height- 5-9.5
Weight- 231
Forty- 5.00

Why can't they come up with some measurable for heart and desire?

When a guy has something like 120 tackles it's usually a product of the way the defense is designed.

Designed or not ,his production is impressive. He WAS the heart of that DEF.btw-they won the ACC

It's also a product of him shedding blockers, getting to the ball carrier and getting him to the ground. Most defenses should be designed in such a way that the LBs make most of the tackles (especially the mike position) and you still don't see production like that very often.

Jon has always been a hard worker and should do well on special teams at the next level...he wanted to be a jacket also but we wouldnt offer

The draft is filled with guys every year who have these great "measurables" that are their physical characteristics such as 40 time, height, weight, etc... but don't necessarily translate into performance on the field.

I remember when Terrell Suggs came out of Arizona State aafter shattering the single season sack record set by Dwight Freeney. All he did in his career was wreak havoc on opposing offenses and yet when he ran a subpar 40 time at the combine he dropped from being a sure top 5 pick to the 10th pick by Baltimore. Of course all he's done in the NFL is average 10 sacks per year.

OR how about Mike Mamula who parlayed a very good college career and an eye popping combine workout into becoming the 7th pick in the 1995 draft.

Marco Coleman didn't have great measurables, IIRC, coming out of GT but ended up having a pretty darn good career in the NFL for a bunch of teams.

Now some of the measurables do contribute to a person's ability to play but they shouldn't completely outweigh what he did on the field.

I wish him the very best. However, short and slow don't bode well for being drafted.
I do expect him to make a roster though. After that, it's all up to him...as usual! Good Luck.

Making a roster with a 5.0 40? Maybe if you're 6-7 and 340 but at less than 5-10? I'll make a wager.

Where would he play? Long snapper?

LfD, have you ever watched this kid play? If not, bite your tongue! Did you ever see Rock Perdoni play? Not much difference!

fwiw, I listend to a lot of the NFL Combine stuff, and the thing they're looking for isn't so much that your stats are great, just that they at least somewhat confirm the tape. They're much more about tape than stats.

That said, not so sure his stats give them a warm fuzzy about the tape. He'll probably get picked low.

Even if he never played a down, he'd be a solid late round pick for the Falcons. LB & S are their biggest holes and a local boy that everyone thinks the world of would help folks forget about water bottles and dead animals for a while.

I'd take a flyer on him.

Yes, I've used to watch the Rock play. After I made my $30 selling programs before the games me and my bud would get in and watch. But Rock probably wouldn't make an NFL roster today either.

A 5.0 40 at 5'-9.5" kid has about as much chance making it in the NFL as I do at the NBA at 50 years old. Impossible? No, but extremely unlikely. I said I'd wager something on it. Maybe a Coke and some peanuts.

What's the difference between him and Chris Reis? Chris had better measurables (almost ran a 4.4 40...) but didn't weigh as much. Something tells me he should've finished school.

Its hard to believe he ran that slow. I wonder if there was something bothering him.

Seriously, tho, this kid has a keen nose for the ball but in Wake's D he was allowed to freelance just about every play. I don't think he'll ever play a down in the pros (regular season). But we'll see.

Does anyone remember what Ted Roof's numbers were coming out of Tech? He had a lot of heart, lots of tackles, and so on and so forth; but I think he was low and slow too.

I wish Abbate the best; but I'm skeptical of how effective he can be on Sunday. Hopefully he can get the experience he needs be it on a depth chart somewhere, or another league.
