Ap: Gt #15

Much better then the coaches poll. We're the highest ranked 9-3 team, behind only OSU, and I'm OK with that. We have a very legitimate shot at a top 10 finish.

My god, today is so much more wonderful then I even imagined it could be...

I was hoping for something more like #12 but after looking at the polls, I don't think we necessarily deserve to be higher than any one of those teams ahead of us. Now, I think we could beat several of them but based on records, the undefeated mid majors earned their spots ahead of us. I think we should be ahead of Cincy, though.

Can somebody explain this from the Sagarin rankings? One of these teams is not like the others....

14 Boston College A = 83.37 9 3 72.37( 34) 0 0 | 2 3 | 83.92 14 | 82.39 20
15 Florida State A = 82.69 8 4 72.58( 32) 0 1 | 2 3 | 82.85 16 | 82.06 21
16 Georgia A = 82.59 9 3 74.85( 7) 0 2 | 0 3 | 82.74 18 | 81.98 22
17 Georgia Tech A = 82.27 9 3 72.84( 29) 0 0 | 4 2 | 84.94 12 | 79.69 26

We have a loss to a lousy Virginia team that is pulling us down in the computer ratings. The transitive property doesn't really apply.

I posted this earlier about the Sagarin ranking. We do very well in the Sagarin ranking that does not use point margins, #12. The Sagarin ranking using point margins, the predictor, has us ranked 26th due to the big loss to UNC and the three-point win against Gardner-Webb. The headline ranking is the combination of the two rankings.

Gotcha. Just think it's funny we've beaten all three of those teams.

ELO_CHESS is used by the BCS, and that's the one we're ranked ahead of all of those teams in. We're #12, they're 14, 16, and 18. Note that Georgia is behind us, BC, and F$U :D

what are you talking about, the Big East is so awesome. With teams named after Cities and directions of states, what else could you want?

Do you mean like Boston and Miami and teams with North in their name? Add in a couple of trade schools and it could resemble a real football conference.

Having created an Elo rating system for soccer teams, I have no idea how he expects it to be a super accurate system without using point differential. So, while it's awesome that it has us ranked 12th, I'm much happier with the human polls that have us above UGA.

Reminds me of the lame ass mnemonic devices ESPN was using during our game against Miami to keep Atlanta vs. Costal divisions straight.

He doesn't - the BCS requires that rating systems ignore point spreads, so Sagarin added the Elo version to satisfy them. The "predictor" system is his real rating.

Also, Sagarin is a tool and his ratings are mediocre at best.
