Ap Poll

With a big win against the nadlickers and some timely losses of teams in front could that put us in a position of a BCS bowl?

We are the 2nd highest ranked team with 3 losses. We are starting to get the respect we deserve!

No, you wont EVER see two ACC teams in the BCS unless one is in the MNC.

Not exactly true. You won't see two in the BCS until one actually wins one though. The conference needs to EARN some respect, I hope that starts this year.

I think there's too much of a muddle at the top for that to be a viable option. In theory, if some big upsets happen, I can see it happening, but it's a long shot. But so was our chances at winning the Coastal, and those just got a whole hell of a lot better this weekend.

Looking at the AP top 25..

Ok St has 2 losses, and will probably lose again, we might jump them. Missouri will probably lose the Big 12 Championship game, we might jump them. If we beat Georgia, we'll jump them, and probably TCS, Ball St, and Oregon State.

But even with all that in play, I don't think we make it into the top ten unless we play and win in the ACC Championship game. And if we do that, then we get a BCS bowl anyway.

So no, I don't think we earn a BCS bowl game from a UGA win, but we could very definitely earn it from a UVA win over a down VT team.

Did anyone notice UNC dropped from the rankings to getting 0 votes. NONE. Wow...

Edit: Actually, every ranked ACC team dropped from the rankings to getting ZERO votes.

I think our jump had alot to do with it being on Thursday and just about everyone saw the game!

Watching how UNC and UVA played, it's fair to say they don't deserve any votes. I was surprised to see VT, in the driver's seat in the ACC, with no votes. Guess the voters weren't impressed by that 14-3 shellacking of the Dukies. Maybe they're finally learning some sense.

As for an at-large bid (obviously a very long shot):
1) Beat UGA; VT wins and VT/BC/FSU goes to the Orange Bowl
2) Florida and Alabama BOTH need to lose. Then whoever loses the SECCG would probably be ranked below us, and there may only be the one SEC BCS team.
3) Oregon State loses to Oregon so the Pac-10 only gets one bid, which would likely be USC in the championship game (since Bama and Florida are out of the national race).
4) The Big 12 champ plays USC in the nat'l championship. One other Big 12 team gets in.
5) So, now we've got 5 BCS teams (the ones already mentioned). Utah makes 6, Cincy (Big East champ) makes 7, Penn State (Big 10 champ) makes 8.
6) The Big 12 can't get another bid, so who's left? Even if Oregon beats Oregon State, they probably won't leapfrog us in the BCS, but the Rose Bowl wanting a traditional Pac-10 team may be an issue. So it would look like the last three candidates for the final two BCS spots are GT, Oregon, and Boise State. Maybe TCU but I doubt it.

Did I do anything wrong there? Looking at this now, it's unlikely, but far from impossible. Actually, a lot more plausible than I would have thought when beginning this little exercise.

UVA beating VT is a thousand times more likely than us getting an at-large should UVA lose.

Something tells me this year did not help the ACC earn any respect.

Only because people were predisposed to believe the ACC wasn't any good. In the years where the SEC beats up on each other, everyone says "OMG the SEC is SOOOOO good".

Beavs are ahead of us only because they're still reaping divdends from their win over USCw. They barely squeaked by Az.

The thing here is that it's roses for them if they get past O next saturday. If that happens, there is no way we leapfrog them.
