Are we judging Gailey unfairly?

First, I will say he is ultimately responsible for the whole program. However, he may be in a predicament that is not totally of his making.

It is presumed he was saddled with an offensive coordinator that was not necessarily of his choosing. Also, it must be assumed the players feel more loyal to BOB than CG, due to the years the players and BOB have known each other.

If there were to be some conflicts of interest between the coaching philosophies of the HC and OC, it is possible the players could become involved. If this happens, we could guess they would feel more loyal to BOB and side with him.

Possibly there could be some internal problems and the agitation could have spread to the members of the defense. If this were to be a problem, Gailey is in the middle and may be tip-toeing through the tulips.

If this were to be the problem, an immediate fix would be changing of the OC. If this is a problem and the change is not made it will fester all the way into next year due to the recruiting season. It may not all be Gailey's fault. However, since we are on the outside, we don't know, and it could be Gailey's fault.

It is just impossible to determine at this time.

The gist of the post is to raise the question, "are we unfairly judging Gailey for an inherited problem?".

I will continue to assert that Gailey is ultimately responsible for the program and should make immediate changes where needed. After having thought the situation over, I will refrain from commenting on any remarks regarding a need for replacement of the head coach for awhile.

Personally, I need more information as to the reasons the ship is astray. However, I will continue to debate game decisions and other items regarding the team play throughout the remainder of the year.

I intend to give Gailey the benefit of the doubt, until all doubt has been erased.

What does "until all doubt is erased" really mean? At some point, everyone must make an educated assessment of this situation. I gave Gailey the benefit of the doubt when he was hired out of the blue, without Div.1 experience. Also when recruiting went adrift due to conflicts with his old job. Also when he admitted on several occasions of not being familiar with the current players, their talents, or even NCAA rules, for that matter. I gave him the benefit of the doubt when his assist. coaches came under resume fire, and had to be replaced or embarrassed. Also when the Def. Coor. was brought in by Braine, not Gailey, etc...etc...etc.....
.
Until all doubt is erased? what more is needed?

Until all doubt is removed, one way OR the other=
Febuary 2003 signing day. Then we will all know for SURE. THWG

Good post Ahso.

I have been thinking that the OC needs to be changed out ASAP. Is there any way to accomplish this before the year is out? I hear much good about Robinson. Is he on staff? Could we do a swap?

A change, however, may bugger the problem even more if there exists a division in player loyalties between coaches.

If the OC is not on the same page with the HC then it would be incumbent upon gailey to remove him from any contact with his players and take over the reins of the OC. All Gailey seems to do now is carry a clip board and stand on the sidelines looking like he is bored. We do know that something very serious is going on with this
team
and I agree that everything comes back to THE MAN.
I hope for our sakes it is something that easy to correct but I have a sick feeling that the problem runs much deeper and the solution much more painful to solve than removing BOB. Duke looked very good in losing to NC State today by only two points and to be very honest I don't think we can beat Duke now. Just think we could very well end this season on an eight game losing streak. This is more than a possibility, it is a probability.

I think it's funny how Chan hired his own staff, except for the OC, and the O is what's struggling the most. God Bless O'Brien, but if he and Chan aren't on the same page, then he's got to go.

If there is a division in player loyalties between BO'B and Chan as I have seen posted in several locations, then would not Chan want BO'B in the booth r/t on the sidelines. With BO'B in the booth, then two things occur: 1) Chan is close to the players and 2)the plays that are called from the sidelines could be pre-emptive over those called from the booth. If this theory is correct, then we saw Chan's offense on Thursday and BO'B's in the first 6 games.

Is this even a valid issue?

We needed to give Bill Lewis more time. He would have it around. He was a former NCAA coach of the year.

Lol give B*** L**** more time!! What taking a team that had won the MNC four years earlier to a 1-10 team, the laughing stock of college football, was deserving of more time? Sheesh. They guy was run out of time and rightfully so. He sucked, his system sucked, and playing your friends son as QB instead of the more talented player shows a problem with your ability to make sound decisions.

Sorry but that was one of the most ridiculous things I have seen posted.

Beesnut,
I think you missed the intent of his post. And he makes a very good point and implied analogy to the current situation.

Goldbuzz was being ironical.

What is really sad is how hysterical we are about Bill Lewis. It really must have suited many of you to have somebody to despise, you're so eager to despise the new coach.

Nostalgie de la boue, maybe.

Great post about Bill Lewis. It has been my theory all along that Gailey and Lewis are earily similiar. Both brought in with the take they would be better with the press and alumni and represent the institution well. Lewis immediately takes a athletically talented quarterback and benches him for the one who makes less mistakes but also makes no great plays. Lewis recruited extremely poorly. I think Gailey fits all these. He will last 4 years because of Braine and we will need 5 years to rebuild again!

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">Yeah, it's the EXACT SAME SITUATION. Except Bill Lewis was around for a bit more than 1/2 a season.
Right?

Guess we should've fired Ross after 2 horrible seaons at the helm too?

I've" lurked both here and on the Hive and now I'm compelled to respond. I hope this lengthy diatribe isn't too far off the mark.

We have two choices. Give up on Gailey and find a replacement and then find another and another until we get it right. This could take some time and money but then who cares, we have to have a winner at all cost.

We should analyze the situation and determine that CG is coming from a Pro program to a College level program. There are but a few distinct differences between the two.

In pro ranks players are driven not only by some small amount of pride but also by ehancement of their paychecks by bonus payments and post season payoffs for special achievments. Gailey supposedly may be operating under unintended misunderstanding in that college athletes have other things on their minds. In previous posts and interviews CG is supposedly dealing with these SAs as adults. They are not adults. They must continue to be instructed and taught, led, directed, pushed and driven, given no options other than absolute perfection in execution at their best available position, (determined by the coaches not the players) in spite of personal preference and personality. People and players should not expect they have a right to like their coaches(employers) but must understand that they must respect their "superiors" without question. In doing so the players that move to the next level (pro sports ) will benefit financially from their efforts and those that move into ellected fields (academic or business) will also benefit as they utilize both collegiate educational and athletic experiences.

Secondly, and probably primary in athletics, the question of conditioning comes into play. What role do the coaches play in providing conditioning and weight training? Tired players get hurt. Weak players get hurt. Tired and weak players give up easier than strong players. I'm not saying that our team is weak or tired, but how can we justify the extensive list of injuries to our front line players other than lack of physical conditioning and preparation? As previously mentioned, pro athletes are penalized on a monetary basis and college athletes are out for undetermined periods of time. College level athletes are driven by a different set of variables. CG must realize these differences or both he and GT football will suffer the consequences.

I vote to give Gailey and GT football the benefit of time and effort. In fact, I consider the following games to be nothing more than scrimages in preparation for unseating the previously undefeated Bulldogs come Nov. 30.

If I'm wrong, I'll have to pay but then I've had practice and will continue to support my Jackets. Win lose or draw, I've been a Jacket fan since the days of BD in the 50's and will continue to support the boys of White and Gold.

Hey Bookergt, I think you ARE saying Tech players are weak and tired. And you bring up a very good point in doing so.
