for the whole pool:

I wonder how our pool compares when you take out the OC salary for the other teams. Not saying we shouldn't commit more to assistant coaches but the absence of an OC does reduce the amount of money committed to assistants' salaries.

Retention does not seem to be a problem. We don't have a high turnover in coaches.

So if we give them all raises will they coach better? No.

Can we replace underperforming coaches and hire in better ones? If so I am all in.

We lost a couple good ones to promotions/career-refocus. Cook is a decent coach that can be replaced, but will be missed. Waggoner is a HUUUUUGE loss. He was pretty much our QA department for recruiting. Waggoner wanted to have an on field position, so I don't blame him for leaving. That said, he was a rock star given the resources he had at his disposal.

I'd like to see a zero next to Sewak's name.

I think it's funnier to think how bad of an ROI some of those schools are getting. And I'd bet that VPISU's doesn't look too different from ours, except that Foster gets paid way more than Teddy Roof.

Well, that, OR it opens up enough money to pay to other assistants.

A few observations:

1. CPJ serves as his own offensive coordinator. There would be an additional well-paid assistant on the payroll if that wasn't the case. That alone would significantly affect the data.

2. Ted Roof makes $750,000. Three of the 8 reporting teams don't have an assistant on staff that makes as much.

3. Our lowest paid assistant makes $203,345. Three of the 8 reporting teams have a lower paid assistant.

4. Private schools don't have to report their salary information and are likely to have budgets that are lower, in general, than the larger public schools.

Can we sell half of McCamish Pavillion and start paying our assistants appropriate sums?

No offense to any of those assistants but not a damn one of them is worth the money we are paying them now. We just need to add more coaches and pay them less.

You think Mike Sewak is deserving of a $250k pay check? Shit how about any of our assistants? They're all lucky to have a damn job coaching in college. Its not like we should worry about these guys getting offers from other schools because of the system we teach. Lets face it, if GT is willing to spend $250k+ on any assistant, they better be able to recruit their balls off. Roof is the only one worth his salary and that's questionable, but I can stomach it because the guy can flat out recruit. None of the other coaches are worth a shit recruiting.

This is one of the most overlooked benefits of having CPJ. Not only has CPJ produced one of (if not the) most successful offenses in the conference over his tenure, but there's little risk of him being hired away and there's no concern over an OC being hired away. We have built in consistency at a discount - the best of both worlds (as long as we're still successful on offense). This is also why I thought we were on the verge of something VERY good following the 2014 season because if Roof was successful there was also smaller risk of him getting hired away (alum who's already done the HC circuit). We've got 2 solid coaches filling the 3 most important positions and we're fairly confident that they want to be here. We're in a better situation than a lot of factories right now (LSU, UGA, Tennessee, Texas) who are hiring unproven guys at HC and having OC/DCs hired away.

TLDR: we're fine.
