on the flats next spring!
Is there another school out there that is so in the dark over their quarterback situation for 007?

We will at that time have 7 QB's on scholarship, with no frontrunner according to what CG has told us this year.
This could be another poll, but there are too many possible responses:

Bennett (not even close to Ball according to CG)
Booker
Manley
Garner
Ingram
Threet
Nesbitt

How do 7 quarterbacks get enough snaps during Spring to determine a starter?

I'm excited because in addition to all them Qbacks, we are loaded and deep at just about every position. A talented frosh QB who's had some time in the system (Ingram, and Threet's enrolling next semester) can come in and really be successful with the talent he'll have surrounding him.

'course, Bennett's been learning the system for what, 3 years now? Ya gotta figger that if any of these fellers beat out Tater, he's gotta bee pretty dang good.

Pretty much every school that is losing a senior QB will be in the dark going into next year. Some may think they know who their new QB will be and some may hope the know, but until the new guy takes control of the situation you just never know.

This is very much like the situation after Joe left. Nobody knew who would take control.

This about our QBs, but first consider:

I have heard people describe the star system like this:

5 star - Immediate Contributor/starter, Can't miss star at some point in career.

4 star- Will contribute significantly as an underclassman. Likely to be a star or at least a big time contributor at some point.

3 star- Likely to be an important contributer as an upper classman, but needs maybe a couple of years to develop.

1 & 2 star- D1 Athelete. Probably needs development. Likely to contribute more as upperclassman, probable upside not as high, not as likely to develop into a star. (Also recruiting services often give 1 or 2 stars if they have not yet seen film/evaluated a player (think Melton, Gibert, Tarrant, who will be reranked soon because services have finally gotten film).

Now look at our QBs for next year:

2 4-star, top 10 QB true freshmen
1 3-star, top 25 RS freshman (Ingram)
1 3-star, top 25 RS sophmore (Garner)
1 3-star JR (not sure of ranking (Booker)
1 2-star, RS junior (Bennett). I have been told that Manley will not be a viable QB, but is valuable in other ways to the team.

Considering the star system as defined above, all of these guys should be on about equal footing. Should make for an exciting competition!!!

I disagree with this - didn't everyone realize that Goose would be the starter?

Yes, there were questions about how good he would be (not in my mind), but we knew he would be the man.

No, alot of people thought that Crenshaw was going to be the starter and Andy Hall was in the mix as well. Godsey had looked pretty bad in spot work the year before and even after being declared the starter was pulled on more than one occasion early in his first season as a starter.

No, I'd say your memory is a little cloudy. No one was sure about Goose based on how he looked in his scant playing time. In fact, I'd say he wasn't the solid choice until his heroics against Central FL. Plus we used at least 2 qbs, (maybe 3?) against FSU.

That's one reason I'm not that worried about next year. I don't know if TB can be the man, but I also didn't think Goose could. What you see from a backup isn't necessarily what you get if he becomes the starter.

Ye memory is short, my friend.

Godsey looked like crap in backup duty. Godsey split time with Crenshaw early that year too (see: FSU game) because everyone thought we needed a mobile quarterback to run the Freidgen system.

Eventually, Freidgen changed his system to match his talent, from the 3 wide, crazy formation, triple option stuff to the double tight double wide timing route stuff, because it suited Godsey's talents (vision, delivery) and drawbacks (weak arm, slow) better.

edit: Gah! sniped!

Ye memory is short, my friend.

I distinctly remember telling Fridge that George was his man. :)

Wasn't Hall a true Freshman? And Crenshaw a RS freshman? I guess my recall is faulty...

Godsey, Crenshaw, and Hall played against FSU that year and we just about won (stupid no call on pass interference). Oh to have an OC willing switch things up when things aren't going well.

geeteelee, Goose has first shot because he had been Joe's backup, but no one knew what to expect. But he had never looked good in short stints and many were expecting someone else to beat him out. Really no different than the situation TB will be in next year.
