I haven't seen much mentioned. I was struck with the lack of fan atmosphere yesterday. The weather played a big role in that of course. But, if you claim to have this national championship caliber program does the fan base not show for 50 degrees and drizzle. I think this played a huge factor in the game.

A couple thoughts:
It is senior day. It is an in-state rival. It is the last regular season game. It is the day to honor your hall of fame caliber radio guy of 40+ years. It is the day to roll out much anticipated VD honor statue and renaming of the sports complex. Team jumps out to 16 point half-time lead and everybody goes home. Honestly, The UGA fans got the performance they deserved today. That was not a champion caliber fan base that was a 4-H club outing to the county fair.

I agree, considering the circumstances it was a very, very subdued atmosphere even with the big half time lead.

It was a LOT of fun leaving yesterday! :laugher:

No doubt. On the way in I was called everything in the book. I even had one nadlicker hold up a box of nerds and yell in my face.

On the way out - total silence.

I, on the other hand, yelled myself hoarse on the way back to CCHS.

Man what total joy!

We were at the Dooley statue and the ceremony was being held exactly 20 minutes later. There was not one soul there. It was raining but come one, don't you show up for a God like they believe he was.

I was shocked to see empty seats in a corner and along the top which was plainly visible on TV.

And they say we cant fill our stadium!

A friend of mine worked security for the game yesterday, and had the following observations:

watching every player on both team get off the bus and looking them in the eye that the UGA players didnt look like they gave a rats patoottie about the game (or maybe they were sad they didnt get to do the Dawg Walk because of the rain) and the Tech players looked FOCUSED.

They didnt look pumped getting off the bus, but they looked like they had tunnel vision. Tech's focus grew to intensity when they headed back to the locker room after pregame warmups

Perhaps many of the uga fans didn't want to risk catching a cold or maybe even the flu that would keep them from attending the BCS Championship game that they were awarded in September..... oh wait, never mind.... just forget that

Most intense road game I've seen or been to was this year in Death Valley. The Tigguhz were juiced to be rid of Tommy.

I made the same comment when my brother and I were talking about what a dud the Ugay fans were yesterday. My ears rang the entire first quarter at DV.

The stadium looked pretty full, but there was plenty of room to spread out, so they obviously had some no shows due to the weather. The fans were really loud in the first half, and a couple of the UGA fans around us were being pretty obnoxious, but the third quarter really silenced them more than I would have expected. The rudest of the bulldog fans "had to go meet some people" about 10 minutes into the second half and he left, depriving me of some payback. I would say it was still a very intimidating environment considering that they easily had over 75,000 people in red and black. Compare that to 40,000 at BDS. They have a very high energy PA and jumbotron production. The announcer is a lot more fired up than Tech's, and he gets the crowd going. I've been to two Tech games at Sanford, now, and I've never been to Death Valley or Blacksburg, but the Athens environment is a definitely a tough place for visitors. Saturday was no different, but the walk out was much sweeter than 2 years ago.

The best part of that is 80's rock/metal ballad remakes they use during play stoppage and highlight videos.:laugher: That must really get the fan base reved up there in Athens.

Wait, he brought a box of Nerds with him? Like he was planning that line?
Picture him at the local Athens tire/lube on Tuesday in his coveralls with his name embroidered on a big white patch, him and his buddies laughing about how funny its going to be to call us nerds, only this time they'll have that visual. There's 3 hours of work that place isn't getting back, eh?

LSU "Death Valley"
I've been and I'm still scared of the things I saw there.
