Auburn game

It is almost upon us. Auburn is very talented this year...even picked #1 in one preseason poll. Smell an upset, a slugfest, or a slaughter?

Almost first games of the year for both..so, I see a slugfest till about the fourth quarter. Depth may then really hurt us unless we get some good breaks.

It’s TECH 2nd game, 1st home game. It depends on what happens at BYU. Good game at BYU, Tech will do good agents AU.

I agree with wreckfan, it depends to some degree how we look against BYU. If we do well against BYU there, I think it improves our chances against Auburn at BDS.

I really and truly hope we get off to a hot start, maybe Bilbo gets things rolling at BYU we win there build some MO heading home, Get an early lead on an Auburn team seeing its first game of the season. Find away to stop all those great backs late and pull out a W. Maybe its wishful thinking but I think we can suprise some folks.

I believe much has to do with what happens seven days earlier over at The Plains as well.

A very strong USC team is favored right now at Awbun! USC has the type of team that can physically beat up the AU defense for 4 quarters. Mix in the southern heat, and AU might be in worse shape coming out of Game one than we would be even if we were to drop a close one in Provo.

I just love the fact that we're playing Awburn again!!! I'll be sky high no matter what happens at BYU and just hope the kids are. Since it's been so long do you guys think the players and coaches understand what this one is all about? We need to make sure they do if that's the case.

NCJacket, I do think most all Jackets are pumped over playing Auburn again. I believe the stadium will be rocking and Tech fans there to see us beat them. This could help out football team to be pumped up for this game.

Since no one has played a game yet it's hard to say how good either team will be, but on paper we don't match up well against them. From everything I've read they are a big, physical team with an exceptional power running game. Having an unproven quarterback is our biggest weakness, but I don't think I'd get much argument if I said that defensive tackle is our second biggest weakness. I think if we played them later in the year we'd have a better chance. By then I'm hoping that our offense will have gelled and we will have found some defensive lineman physical enough to at least tie up the offensive linemen long enough for our linebackers to make a tackle. I think our best hope for the Auburn game is that they come out flat. Given that they have the big opener with USC, and that they are probably well aware of the wretched way we ended last year, and that most of the players are too young to remember the rivalry, and that we're the home team, I think there is a real chance of them not being at their sharpest. If we can get off to a good start and gain some confidence and our home crowd is loud, we could very well pull it off.

Guys, I really think the BYU game will set the tone for the season. I don't see us beating Auburn if we lose to BYU

Too early to tell, but at this juncture this one is ugly - Auburn will put a tested, experienced defense vs. our inexperience at QB. On offense, they will pound us with a strong running back vs. a smaller def. line. Depth on an early, hot day makes this gap even wider. This one doesn't bode well.

Auburn's weakest link is there Def Backs which does not match well with our questionable passing game.If we can't pass successfully ,it will be a long long day with their running game slowly wearing us down..

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">Big: You mentioned USC being favorites in this game - by how much? This surprises me. Auburn played them very close early last season in LA with Carson Palmer at QB. Palmer is gone and that's big for USC to replace.

I have to think that favorite role will change as it gets closer to game time and Auburn is at home. But would still like to know at 6 weeks out - what the spread is?

PS - I also remember watching the game last year in LA - the constantly spoke about how hot it was on the field - close to 90 degrees. I don't think heat will be a factor.

If we don't win the BYU game, I don't think we'll win more than 3 or 4. However, I feel we'll have a good shot against a sub par BYU team while Auburn will have its hands full with USC.

To beat Auburn, we'll need some help plain and simple. We need them not to be at their best. This is probably good timing to have Auburn early but not necessarily the first game.

A newly renovated BDS packed with OLD GOLD will be a big plug for us. I still say that Auburn will be good but will lose a couple of games because they are very one dimensional. If Campbell and the passing game proves, they'll contend for the SEC title. If not then they're vulnerable to anyone who can stop the run.

It may be wishful thinking, but I definitely feel that we have a shot at beating Auburn.
