COACHES AND PLAYERS DID GREAT JOB!

HAPPY TO BE A FAN!

THANKS!!!!

By the way, I have always been on the bandwagon, but cannot neglect to state the obvious from my view.

It was a good win on the road, especially, because we had to overcome so many odds. We have had a lot of things happen to us that have been huge, the loss of Hollings, Gathers, Ford, Manget, ect.

After saying this, we are still not a good team. We have some very obvious shortcomings.

Some coach, either O,Brien, Gailey, or Nix needs to work extensively with Suggs. He is still out of sync on many of his moves and is overthrowing the receivers way to many times. I will not say the name, but in previous years this would have been corrected by someone showing Suggs his problems.

Our backs are not hitting the holes quick enough. I noticed many big holes and the backs should have slipped through them for some good yardage, but seemed as if they were in slow motion. The offensive linemen were opening huge holes.

Of course, when it became evident we were going to run Ace on every first down, Carolina would assign players to blitz and go for Ace. We were running some clock, but that is still making it too easy for the defense.

By the way, Ace did a terrific job for a freshman, although he was slow getting to some of the holes. It looked like a problem of technique more than the lack of speed.

Tenuta is beginning to worry me, big time. It seems he has all our backs in prevent defense all the time. They are not playing the receivers close enough. They should play the receivers close and when the quarterback is having pressure placed on him, the backs should step in front of the receivers, ready for the interception.

We are going to get killed when we play Rivers, and some of the other good quarterbacks.

I was glad to see Bilbo in the game, and he needs to play more. It would have been a good move to place him in the game on first and second down while we were trying to run the clock.

Next week, we will have our hands full with Wake Forest. They do not have a huge amount of talent, but they play sound football. I would place them and Clemson as the best coached team we have played to date.

I would still like to see Nix as the QB coach. I have no idea who has the expertise on the staff to be a good running backs coach.

How ANYONE can be even SLIGHTLY negative after such a BIG win is beyond me! EXCELLENT win. Kudos indeed to coaches AND players after all that has hit them recently. Yes, there are things to work on, but aren't there ALWAYS???!!

C'mon, give it a rest and enjoy the moment!

JACKETS WIN!! JACKETS WIN!! JACKETS WIN!!!

The defense was awesome ! To expect another team to have NO completions etc is unreal..Teams are going to have some big plays etc against anybody, but we held them to 13 points @!!!!!!

I was there - and the general feeling was that the D had control of this game - I thyought they did a great job...I bet we held them to less yards than Texas did....

ahsoisee, if that's on the bandwagon I'd hate to see you if you weren't. Couple of comments..

I don't think our running plays are designed to hit the hole quickly. The QB takes it back to the RB and he then picks his spot. It's the same style UNC used to use in their heyday or 1000 yd backs.

You also can't play press defense with the DBs all the time. You have to mix it up. I agree that they were off too far on some plays, but if you play it that way all the time you get burned deep. You also have to play a little safe if you are blitzing, which we did quite a bit. By the way, it's called "zone" not prevent. There are always some holes and sometimes teams hit them.

Overall though I thought the defense played very good. We'll see how Rivers does. But if he's on his butt he can't complete passes.

I agree our QB play still needs work. It was much better today but still not up to the standard set by our last 2. However I like the confidence the coaches showed in Suggs in the last 4-5 minutes. In the past we might have just run the ball into the line and punted. I was excited to see us pick up some first downs.

I am so impressed with the character this team is exhibiting. With all the players losses, including Manget today, and all the outside stuff, the kids just keep coming to play. Not perfect, but with a lot of attitude and heart. I'm as proud of this team as I've been of a Tech team in a long time.

Yes NCJacket. WE'RE ALL VERY PROUD of our Jackets!! You make us VERY proud to be GT fans!!!

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">Yep, and running on first down was still allowing us to average over 4 yds. per carry. If the other team cannot stop the run w/8 guys near the line of scrimmage, why do anything else? Offensive gameplan was very good. Simple and effective. If your offensive line is blocking that well, why would you not run the ball down their throats? If the other team knows it is coming and they STILL cannot stop it, why not keep running it?

Tenuta should not be a concern for you. His defensive gameplans and adjustments are two of the main reasons that we beat BYU and UNC. He deftly changed his blitz scheme (in both games) after initial efforts failed. Great play calling. I do agree that the corners are giving a bit of a cushion, but in a blitz situation, the corners are keeping the receivers in front of them. They are in man coverage when we blitz; if the corner goes for the interception and misses, the play opens up for a huge gain at a minimum. Hester went for a pick in the fourth quarter today as you suggested; he missed and the UNC receiver got an additional 30+ yds.

GT still has a lot to work on. The positives this week were better offensive play calling and Suggs/Bilbo were effective. In the more simplified offensive scheme that we are playing, Suggs will get more and more confidence. Bilbo will be a good change of pace for opponents to defend. I still contend that we will continue to improve over the course of the season just as we have since the Clemson game. Relax, 4-1 ain't that bad right now. We have a very good chance of being 7-1 rolling into Raleigh.

A "W" is a "W", and we did what we had to do to win, BUT I had the general impression that we were bogged down. Felt like we were running in mud.

Since CU, personal fouls and stupid penalties non-existent. That is great!

One interception, no fumbles. That's very good.

Cornerbacks not making plays - linebackers doing the heavy lifting. Not good for cb's.

NC not very good. Seemed we played to their level.

So proud of our guys for "gritty" win.

Someone needs an enema. It's a game played by young adults. Learn to enjoy and be supportive. It's worth it. The big money people will take care of the ancillaries.

Hey gameface, I have been watching college football and GT football for over 50 years and have been enjoying it all those years. Are you coming along at this time and trying to tell me how to enjoy football? Gees!

Ahso,

GT has some areas that need improvement. On that
we agree.

BUT...

We controlled the clock and the defense pitched a
shutout in the second half. If Manget had been in
there today we'd have won by 2 TDs on the road
against one of the most prolific offenses in the
ACC.

AND...

Best of all, there has been progress from the
Clemson to BYU to UNC games in several areas.

I will add my remarks regarding the Wake Forest game on this post, because I have already covered the same material since the Clemson game. I have stated the same basic facts in the post above and similar posts from each of the games beginning with the Clemson game.

Even though our receivers and quarterbacks are still not in sync, and we have a pretty blah offense, it was the pass defense that killed us. It is obvious our play selection is poor, and we still continue to run only one back from the backfield.

Wake Forest would fake to several backs before giving to a runner. It works for their team with weak personnel, think how much better it could work with a team with superior personnel. We have just lost to the team in the ACC with least amount of talent of all the ACC teams, maybe with the exception of Duke.

I have not been happy with O'Brien from the beginning. I have begun to question Tenuta since the Clemson game. I am now convinced he cannot cut the mustard at GT. It is beyond me as to how he has had success at the other schools where he has coached.

Wake Forest is not a great passing team, but their quarterback can hit the short, control passes. It is unbelievable that we would not play their receivers man-to-man and stay in front of them. We are a team that does not intercept passes unless they are overthrown or thrown poorly.

Tenuta is a failure at Tech at this particular time, and will remain so until he starts playing the defensiive backs in front of, or side by side with the receivers on the short passes. We are getting killed here, and it opens up the running game due to this weakness in his coaching philosophy.

Even though Gailey had the best resume for any coach coming to GT, he is ultimately responsible for GT's performance, and he is failing miserably to make the needed adjustments.

You can bank on this, the hand-writing is on the wall, we "will" lose to Maryland, NCSU, FSU, and UGA. Virginia will even beat us at home if they come out throwing.

It has nothing to do with material nor our injury list. Poor play has nothing to do with injuries. We have three times as many quality players as Wake Forest, but their coaches were able to beat our inept group of coaches on our own home field.

We are done for the year.

Bring on the howls and Hewitt's basketball team.

Ah I'm as disgusted as much as you are on some things but I remember last yeat Md. Clemson Va ect as well as wake a few years ago that had much worse coaching. I really believe when Chan gets his coaches under controle we will improve, infact we have seen much of that already in other games. But I am not sure that AJ is going to be able to do the job consistantly enough to win and I believe Bilbo will be given more reps.

I just fell of the Bandwagon, again. I'll be surprised if we win anymore games this year, save Duke. Tech's pass defense is still as bad as it has been for last ten years.
