I have a friends in to go to the game with me. We are staying at the GT Hotel. Since it is an early game we are going to just drink afterwords. Trying to think of some decent bars to go to. We will probably start at the bar in the hotel.

What is walking distance (or short cab ride) that is a good atmoshere and has TVs to continue watching games?

I hear good things about the Fox Sports Grill in Atlantic Station.

You can google all these:
Vortex on Peachtree is a bar with great burgers, 5 minute walk.
Taco Mac on Peachtree is a popular hangout, 5 minute walk.

I didn't like Fox too much the only time I was there.

i didnt like the Fox place either
Gordon Biersch makes their own beer and has a decent selection of food
there is also a Taco Mac at 10th and Peachtree St
for a more "clubby" atmosphere, "Lucky's" is on Luckie st right near the Aquarium about 10 minutes walk from BDS
Also, there is a group of bars and restaurants on Crescent Ave, which runs between 14th and 11th (?) st, between Peachtree and W Peachtree

Fox Sports Grill has plenty of TVs, but it's often overcrowded and the service is poor - they want to turn over tables quickly.

Taco Mac plenty of TVs as well - all the games - food is okay.

Vortex plenty of TVs - Really good food, but smoking is allowed.

Stats - Its further downtown near CNN, good food clean place.

Can't go wrong with Taco Mac...plenty of beer choices and great gameday environment.

Yes, but this also means no screaming children.

I've been to the Vortex well, a lot, and I can't really think of smoking being that big of a deal, at least not compared to the fact there aren't any obnoxious kids.

Put it this way, I don't smoke, and I've never gone in there and felt miserable or like I was hacking up a lung.

+1

Rocky Mountain is pretty dive-esque but there is cheap booze and the pizza is ok... and its probably the closest location to campus @ 10th and Hemphill

Other places mentioned is not much far off.

Rocky Mountain is not too bad, I am not sure how crowded it is saturdays or after games.

Oh yeah, nobody mentioned it, there is a Cheetah on spring st, pretty close to your hotel. Just sayin!

Fox Sports Grill sucks. Rocky Mountain would be good for the "GT experience," it's cheap and good food. Ribs and Blues in Technology Square is good on weekday afternoons, never been there on the weekends....definitely sit outside. Of course the best option is to just grab a cooler and a cheap grill and tailgate after.

are you talking about sports bars? because all the bars people are listing are sports bars.

A hint in the original post: "What is walking distance (or short cab ride) that is a good atmoshere and has TVs to continue watching games?"

Yes, I think he pretty much is talking about sports bars. He doesn't want to hear about the kind of bars you go to because.... well, we know what kind of bars I'm talking about.
:hay: :greddy:

Taco Mac is best in walking distance, (tech trolly if it is running). Great beer, but probably crowded by the time the game is over. Might as well try though.

Where is Vortex?

Whoever suggested STATS is just trying to hurt you. The food selection is terrible, the food itself is mediocre at best, and the service has been rather poor in my experience. It's a great concept, great location and poorly executed.
