He's 79 years old. Many critics say that his program has slipped from the national elite, and suggest that perhaps the game has passed him by. The NCAA is trying to take away 14 of his career victories. But despite all of this, Bobby Bowden says he has no plans to retire.

"Right now I have no plans to quit," Bowden told 99.9 FM The Fan, ESPN Radio on Monday afternoon. "I still really enjoy [coaching]."

this is the thread where F$U fans are sweating it

Good Lord. Give it up while you still have something left.

You are never going to catch Paterno nor should you.

Go fishing or something and quit clinging onto the program like its the only thing between you and total obscurity. Somewhere, a good young coach who deserves that job is toiling away as an assistant wondering what the hell has to happen for the F$U job to finally open up.

It's been Bowden's time to leave for a while now. I can't decide what his motivation to stay is: outlast Joe Pa, return FSU to a nat'l power (not likely to happen in his lifetime), or just spite the university and stay until he dies. Regardless, FSU is going to have to draw the line at some point. He is merely a college football symbol now earning 3 mil (or whatever his salary is) on the sideline, and FSU won't improve drastically until the reigns are officially given to someone else.

When the FSU athletic director and alumni decide the team will do better with someone else in charge, BB will decide that it is time to retire.
