BC #2, OSU back to #1

IMO, BC has had better wins than OSU. OSU has beaten purdue -- that's it.

But Tressel is such a great coach you can never assume they'll lose. They play perfect fundamental football.

I do think they'll lose 1 or 2 but man they improve noticeably every week.

It also helps when you play in the worst BCS conference.

Yep --Kentucky 43 LSU 37 (3ot) -- Oregon State 31 Cal 28.

New top five:

1. Ohio State (7-0)
2. BC (7-0)
3. South Florida (6-0)

--that bears repeating...
#3 South Florida (6-0)

4. Oklahoma (6-1)
5. LSU (6-1)

There is a long way to go of course --but the interesting theing to watch could be:

If BC stumbles and Ohio State, South Florida, Oklahoma and LSU win out --would Oklahoma (Big XII champion) and/or LSU (SEC champion) leap-frog an undefeated South Florida team that would have defeated Auburn, West Virginia, Rutgers, Cincinnati and Louisville?

I think both would --leaving an undefeated USF out of the BCSCG.

As of tonight --Arizona St., Hawaii and Kansas are the only other undefeated teams. I think Arizona St. is the only one of the three with a legit shot to go undefeated AND rise to #2 in the BCS polls (to go 12-0 ASU would have defeated Cal, Oregon and USC).

1. Ohio State (7-0)
2. BC (7-0)
3. South Florida (6-0)

This is a stupid thing to look at --and may very well draw a little heat from some of my fellow ST'ers out there --but what the hell, I'm going to do it anyway.

It's debatable --but GT is possibly a fumbled punt and holding call away from being 6-1. BC legitimately defeated GT --but if Tech could have found a way to 'save themselves' in that game then where would we be right now if we were sitting at 7-0?

UMMM, you're forgetting the win over UCF. Remember UCF is coached by the greatest defensive mind of our time.

USF is only halfway through their schedule at this point thwg. But I know what you're getting at --if GO'L would have only had a defense in the late '90s --but it looks as though he still doesn't have one.

Hold off on this --I think the first BCS poll comes out this week --so this will not necessarily be the new top five.

I have a few hundred on USF to play in the BCS game at 100:1. so, i'm completely biased but with regard to O'l it just amazes me how some people love the guy when without Fridge he is not as good of a coach as Chan.

I liked GO'L --basically because he came in after the train wreck that BL left the program in and GT was able to stabilize itself and have some very good seasons a few years after he took over. And you are correct --one big reason (no pun intended) --but one BIG reason was Fridge --no doubt.

That being said --it wasn't lost on me that GO'L was a DC prior to his HC gig at Tech --and defense was the obvious week spot on most of his teams. I never could understand that or figure out why the D was so wretched during those very productive offensive years under GO'L.

#2 in the nation, but there's a lot of teams who can say the same type of thing.

The two losses against UVA and Maryland were games we should have won. 6-1 would have us in the top dozen now at least with a chance for BCS and national title hopes. Would give anything to have those two slow starts and poor finishes back.

I'll say it again--If TC had been 100% for the UVA and MD games we'd be 6-1.
