BCS Controversies

I have been trying to figure out who to cheer for to create the biggest BCS controversies. Beyond cheering for all ACC teams OOC (such as our four ACC-SECs this coming up weekend and bowl games):

1) Cheer for Auburn vs Alabama (1 loss)
2) Cheer for FSU vs UF (2 losses)
3) Cheer for UF vs Alabama (this makes both have two losses)

4) Cheer against OU in last game (out of Big 12 championship)
5) Cheer for TT in last game (tie breaker to championship)
6) Cheer against TT in B12 championship game.

This really puts a strain on the decision of selecting two NC contenders. You have undefeated non-BCS teams that want to go, and a handful of one loss BCS teams.

Anyone else have any others than would really expose the cracks even more in the weak foundation of the BCS?

That could put Texas and PSU in the NC game...... or USC...Utah perhaps.....:ugh:

Yes, I know, and could you imagine the whining that would come out of the B12 and the SEC if they are not in the NC, two losses or not?

As I posted in another thread, think Mizzou (which has already clinched the Big12 North) loses to Kansas but then wins in the championship game against whomever comes out of the Big12 South. And actually, I would want Texas, Oklahoma and TT to win and all be highly ranked in the BCS. Then Mizzou would play and beat the highest BCS ranked of the 3 in the championship -- and NONE of them would be in the championship game.

Also, USC losing to UCLA would help.

Numbers 1 and 2 are a BIG stretch. Auburn won't beat Alabama - Auburn sucks royally this year. F$U may keep it close, but I doubt it. Those will both most likely end in blowouts.

I personally hate Auburn and Alabama, but I love feeding off other people's football misery (maybe because GT has historically gotten my hopes up and then shattered them down).

But can you imagine this: THIS IS ALABAMA'S YEAR. They are going to beat Auburn for the first time in seven years and win the National Championship. Auburn has no chance, they are beyond terrible. The obnoxious Alabama fans (from an unbiased perspective they are as bad as UGA fans) think that Satan cannot lose. Could you imagine the fallout if Auburn won again. The number of sibling rape charges would skyrocket in the state of Alabama.

(On a side note, check out the preseason ranking to see where Auburn was at the beginning of the year, and how freaking long it took them to drop out of the polls.)

Our satellite office is full of Auburn fans. If they win, the place will be empty. Everyone will be home recovering from a full weekend of drinking and celebrating. I would love to see it happen just so an SEC team gets knocked out of the running.

Sorry, I can't pull for Texas Tech against Baylor. Ha it would never happen, but every one is worried about the head to head tiebreakers after OU-OKla St. It'd be something if Baylor won and sent Texas to the Big12 CG based on tiebreakers. That said, TTU wins by about 40.

GTfan, there is still a achance for Texas to go to the Big12 CG. If UT, TT, and Oklahoma all win this weekend, then they will all have same division and conference record, and then step 5 of the tiebreaker is BCS standing (http://www.big12sports.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=10410&KEY=&ATCLID=1546006) -- which Oklahoma is barely ahead of UT in. So if Oklahoma barely wins, and UT blows out A&M, UT could jump Oklahoma in the BCS and get into the championship game.

True, but even a close OU win over Oklahoma State should provide them a nice bump in the strength of schedule. And with that jump they've already had in the polls, I'm afraid the voters will take a "what have you done for me lately" mentality, despite the fact that Texas won the head to head on a neutral field, and can't help that their tough stretch was a month ago and not at the end of the season.

I would expect OU to be higher than Texas in the BCS this time next week if both win this weekend.

No, Texas is ahead of Oklahoma in the BCS right now due to the computer rankings. A couple computer rankings even put them ahead of Bama.

The polls are driven by emotion, as Mack Brown pointed out, and that's what I hate about them. The BCS is so weighted towards opinion now that it hardly makes sense to even have a consolidation.

Before anyone says it is stupid to put Texas ahead of an undefeated Bama, consider the difference in schedule and the close calls Bama has had against mediocre teams.

When we have a season like last season where the top two teams are knocked off by unranked teams so many times, it becomes pretty apparent that the polls mean almost nothing. It's a shame they are used to determine who goes to the BCS title...even having a playoff system would not fix this, unless you went with conference champions, which really would kill TV revenue during the regular season.
