BCS Standings

GT is #19 in the BCS Standings just relased.

Clem's son #12, we'll see about that next week.
You're right, we will see about that next week at 7:45 on Saturday. Remember the BCS favors teams which have blowout wins, which is the only reason Clem's son is ahead of us 7 spots. I have hated the BCS since its inception in '98. It is a JOKE!!

GT is 13th in both the Harris and the Coaches polls and 19th in the BCS.

I don't understand the "CPU %" part of the BCS. How do we have a .120 and Tulsa has a .190? What does that mean?

It means that the BCS is a total crock. According to the computer, Tulsa is better than us, WHAT A JOKE!!

Even at our #19, we are nearly as close to #15 as we are to #20 (BC).
Reading between the lines some, the fact that VT got mauled on Thursday hurt us pretty bad in this initial poll. A very good BC got little respect for beating them as well.

Not that the BCS poll means much to us this season other than feeling good, a win in DV will really get things rolling in all ways!

I will never fully understand the BCS, even with my degree in Statistics I will never understand it.

In the AP poll, Tennessee is #7, Cal #11, in USA and the Harris poll Tennessee is #9 and Cal #11. On September 2nd Tennessee was 17 points better than top-ten ranked Cal.

Yet in the BCS Cal is #10 and Tennessee is #11 because six different computer rankings say so. I mean, I still hate almost everything orange but this is utter nonsense.

Essentially the computer polls are saying our schedule has not been tough enough...even saying Tulsa's is more difficult.

Tulsa's wins were SFAustin, Navy, North TX, SoMiss, and ECarolina. They were blown out 49-24 by BYU!! the only person they rolled it up on was SF Austin 45-7.

There is some flawed logic in there for SOS. Particularly since our only loss is to BCS #8 by only 4 pts!

oh well...lets just beat Miami and 2 other ACC teams, go to the ACC Championship, win it....and go to the Orange!

Computer polls (like Sagarin) are only reliable towards the end of the season, since they need good data points for comparison.

I love the Sagarin ratings, but pretty well hate all the rest of the comp polls. If it were me, I'd throw out the whole BCS equation and go just with Sagarin.

Margins have nothing to do with BCS computer rankings. Several years ago there was an uproar about teams getting too much computer credit for running up the score, and it was decided that the BCS would use only computer ratings based on winner/loser - final score is not an input to the programs.

If you look at Sagarin ratings, for instance, he has his "Predictor" ratings based on final score and his "Elo Chess" ratings based on winner/loser only. In this instance Sagarin is merely using a time-worn formula for ranking chess players according to winner/loser only.

Regarding Sagarin's ratings, I do not find them better than average. I did a comparison of many ratings several years ago based on their predictive accuracy, and Sagarin was not one of the better ones. CPA Ratings, Bassett, and Buck were a few of the highest rated performers. Even Dunkel, which has been around for ages, outperformed Sagarin. This is really not terribly surprising, as Jeff Sagarin is not any sort of sports expert and developed his rating system for basketball anyway.

You have to wonder who is the nutjob who programs these computers.
