Behind The Lines: The Academy Football Report (With Paul Johnson Part 1: What Is The Triple Option?)

Coach Paul Johnson also brought his coaches and several of them have stayed around, including current Army Black Knights Head Coach Jeff Monken and current Head Coach of the Navy Midshipmen, Ken Niumatalolo. In part two of our series, Diane Roberts continues her conversation with Johnson and he talks about the coaching careers he help launch.

Behind The Lines's Diane Roberts caught up with the man who wrote the book on the triple option, former Navy football Head Coach Paul Johnson and got the skinny on what goes into this style of football.

Actually, the origins go way back. Bill Yeoman ran a version out of the veer. Emory Ballard is widely credited with the Wishbone. Dodd actually used a form of it in the “belly series” he picked up from a high school coach in Kentucky back in the 50s.

Makes me cringe when they ask him about the "Triple option offense". He want's to cuss, but handles it well. Most tv football announcers should know better, but still call it that.

I am not clear on how to watch videos on the internet, can someone give me a quick rundown? What is the triple option?
