How does the son of a GT alum not even consider Tech? I am just curious if anyone remembers if we even recruited him.

He was recruited in 2000 - which, I guess, is the beginning of our football program's downfall. This was O'Leary's last season and he probably wasn't putting a lot into recruiting.

All I know is that he was recruited in 2000 by Miami (OH), Duke, and Ohio State. I'm glad for him that he didn't come to Tech because he probably would have been red shirted, then put on the bench behind AJ Suggs for one or two years, then played for two years in a boring offense, and then had never gotten to the NFL.

Any thoughts or light on his recruiting?

You're a year off. 2001 was GO'L last year. 2000 was when we had 9 wins and looked pretty respectable. 2001 is when the wheels started falling off and we lost in 2 overtimes (or at least in the very end of the game with Maryland and Clemson, dont remember all the details). 2000 losses were to FSU/NCSU and LSU in the Peach.

No details about recruiting though.

He wasn't really recruited by Ohio State. I listened to an interview he did on ESPN radio a couple of months back and he and his college coach said basically no major schools were interested in him in HS. He ended up at Miami because they were the only ones who wanted him. There's a lesson there, but before someone slams me for not believing in the recruiting services I'll stop right there.

He wasn't recruited heavily because he didn't start until his senior season in HS. Does anyone know the story with the Busing brothers, how did the local schools miss out on them?

Somebody else wrote about B Ross, and what he thought about the recruiting experts versus Ross' interest in physical traits. That seems to be right on target regarding big Ben.

Similar to Taylor Bennett. I hope Bennett follows the same path.

If you watch Roethlisberger you'll see a guy playing with a bum hand and throwing some lame passes, BUT he still wins. Personally, I believe that as a minimum, a player with his smarts can always be a great college quarterback.

That doesn't explain why we did't even show any interest in the son of a former player. I don't remember who we were recruiting at QB that year though.

Watch out Cycle! I asked a similar question about Brad Roper's qb son this year, and got poleaxed.
