Best coach in the south?

Who do you think has been the best coach the last few years in the south..ACC or SEC?

Based on performance? Richt or Tuberville. How bout Pete Carrol at SOUTHERN California?

Based on improvement of their programs, I would choose Grobe at Wake Forest and Johnson at Vanderbilt.

have to agree with you on that...unfortunately, too, Richt is a likeable guy.

I keep hearing that when BB decides to hang it up then Richt is headed back to F$U. People never can give me a good answer why when I ask them. They just feel that he's going back. I'm not so sure he would go. Any thoughts?

btw- Unfortunately my answer would be Richt

Richt will never leave UGA. He wants to be his own legend, not follow in someone else's path.

He brought that program back to national prominance and is a hero compared to nobody. Bowden can't even live up to who he himself used to be, which is the same guy with a weaker schedule, a scandal at Miami that allowed UF and FSU to split Florida's talent by two instead of three, and a weak time in the life of the Dawg nation and GT, further allowing more recruits unmolested.

Bobby can't even live up to his own rep - no one else ever will either.

Richt would have no reason to leave UGA. He will grow old and die there like PaPa Bowden and Joe Pa.

The rumor goes that his wife misses their church and their friends in Tally. I really admire Richt and I would bet he would put this consideration over his own legacy if it is indeed true. Also, I'm sure FSU would have no problem whatsoever taking him back.

Bobby Johnson??

Even with the challenges he faces at Vandy, he's WAY down the list of best coaches in the South. WAY down.

Hard to argue against Richt, but my vote would have been with Saban if he'd stayed at LSU.

BTW, if Coker falls flat at Miami this year, watch the war chest of alumni $$ open up to bring back one of their own, St. Richt.

Re: Bobby Johnson??

Same story once again. Why follow success when you are the only one that has created it somewhere else?

UGA pretty much had a 20 year drought of greatness between Richt and Dooley. They were always a quality program and always were winning a lot, but they were 20 years without dominance - now they have it again. Richt is the king. He won't go to Miami either. What could they, or FSU, offer that UGA already doesn't? Nothing.

All three schools have deep pockets & fertile recruiting ground. MR played at Miami, but never got any love there. FSU absolutely HATED him after his final bowl game, and blamed him for the last loss after he left. They trashed him right and left.

UGA worships him. He built it back. Why would he start over or leave what he built?

This is a subject that irritates me to no end. MR has nothing to gain and everything to lose by leaving UGA. He's not going to FSU, Miami, Timbuktu, or Spain to coach the national soccar team either.

He's gonna be at UGA for a very long time. Quit wishing. GT has to be good enough to beat UGA - not hope UGA is weak enough to be beaten. Be glad - it will make both programs stronger.

I could care less if Richt stays

for the next 20 years or leaves next week. I was only commenting that I think Miami would make a run at him.

You're right - I'd rather beat ugag with the Coach that they all worship like he's ugag's version of The Bear than beat them with a new coach and give them that excuse.

This is what I have heard too. A young guy close to several players off that team said DadGummit tore into him publicly in the locker room during the loss to OK. Claims Bobby will never forgive Richt for the burnt bridge.

Urban Legend?...Maybe.

Plus, as long as conditions stay the same in athens, I think he stays.

I'd say St. Mark and we have to leave CCG out again. He's been named one of the worst 5 in big time football. No. three to be exact behind Red Shoes.

While I agree he doesn't deserve to be in the top 20 or whatever, I fail to see how a coach that's never had a losing season can be catagorized as being in the bottom 5.

He's obviously not bottom 5. The article was referring to bottom 5 coaches that matter.
