Very interesting - a #26 ranking over ten years explains the strong feelings about our program - good enough to care about, to get excited about, but one spot out of the top 25, just a little distance away from greatness.
When you read the list of the programs below us and then realize which ones will be on the top 25 list ahead of us, you recognize O'Leary and Gailey have both done a good job for us. I see so many programs below us - 'Bama, Arkansas, S. Carolina, Clemson, Michigan State, UCLA and others - that have no excuse to be performing below our standards. I can't think of many programs above us that don't have some great advantages over us.
I want us to overcome some of our inconsistencies and move on up to top 20 or 10 status. But, we ought to give credit for having us where we are. We would probably have to go back to a ten year period from 1957-1967 for us to be ranked this high. Certainly '67-'77, '77-'87, or '87-'97 we would have been lower, about 35 to 45 IMO.
