BIG FOOTBALL NEWS

This sounds like HUGE news. Unfortunately, it's for premium rivals subscribers.

Thanks for breaking it here for a change though!

I did not really break anything the article does not tease....but the article is full of good info. I do not want to leak the writers information though since he asked everyone not to.

Oh Good Grief, golly gee whiz, dad burnit, what a salesman you are. Now we'll all have to subscribe to it just because you sparked our curiosity. Good job hiveredtech!!!!!!

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/puke.gif Does that mean that our poor QB play will bleed over to the rest of our offense? Am I missing something about Nix's track record so far?

What you are missing is

the fact that Nix has pretty much had zero control of the play-calling, even though he's been the "OC" in title.

Looks like now he'll have complete control of the O.

New schemes, new wrinkles, etc. This is a GOOD thing, IMO....

Re: What you are missing is

Why yes it is! If anyone sees it as anything but, they can't help being negative.

This should be very interesting indeed.

Yes, it means the whole team will suck and we're actually giving up football after this year. Listen, our offense has not scored near enough points the last 4 years. Everybody wants a change. Evidently we're making one. You bitch. I think that says it all.

FWIW Nix has called the plays in the 2 minute offense, at least last year. I think everyone would agree we move it better during our 2 minute drill than at other times of the game. We still have issues and need to get the ball in the EZ. But instead of not getting close, like we do most of the game. The RZ problems with the 2 minute drill have been Reggie screw ups, plain and simple. This doesn't mean all our problems will magically go away but it is cause for hope.

Hopefully this coming fall, RB will have matured and worked off season hard enough that he may be able to overcome some problems that he has had. I hope so anyway. Also the OL will be another year maturer, so could be this coming year is our year to shine.

you must work for rivals...

and if the news is that PN is the OC then I am just PO'd again. More smoke and mirrors to make it look like something changed when it didn't. Can someone tell Lame (duck) Braine to leave, do not pass go, do not collect $200K, just leave!!!

much more to it

I should hope so. If anyone paid the $99.98 yearly dues only to find out that Pat Nix has been re-named as OC, they would have every right to be really P.O.'d, even with the free toaster.

As long as CG is the head coach here, I will have to wait and see what his definition of offensive coordinator is.

Common sense says that Chan will not give up play calling.
Why should he, unless that little thing about the unsigned contract extension has some ropes attached to it?
If so, good!

Re: you must work for rivals...

I have to say Rivals is completely worth the price. It is obvious they have close ties to the football and basketball programs with the stuff they put on their message board and the players they pull stories on from what seems the middle of nowhere.

It makes sense. GT football pays Rivals $2500 annually but does not subscribe to Scout according to their recruiting budget report that was recently released.

I would also add that Rivals historical has a much deeper database than Scout...50% more.

Re: you must work for rivals...

Rivals on Georgia Tech - Not Worth it IMO. My old roomate works for Gamecock Central and they update that site everyday with something good. GT just doesnt have that much going on in recruiting. Gcock has updates everyday, where as jacketsonline will go for 3 days without posting something, then post some bootleg story titled video on a tight end that we are trying to get. Why dont they call the kid and find out what he thinks about Tech and then post what the kid says. That would be a good article.

Re: you must work for rivals...

I do not think you are following it closely enough...particularly the message board. Rivals definitely gets some good inside. Scout inside seems to come from the poaters more and can be less substantiated. It will also hurt more the Scott Kennedy is leaving from what I understand.

Regarding the database, as of now, Rivals has identified 16 GT offers for 2007 to Scout's 8. Rivals has 114 players with GT interest to Scout's 73.

..and regarding the Woods stories. They have had the Woods coverage much longer than Scout. Heck...his father posts on the Rivals message board...as does Ben Andersons father and brother.

How do you guys see our personel complementing the

spread?

i Love Choice in the spread. Don't know about our receivers - this is an area of improvement regardless of the offense.

The line concerns me - unless reggie can get the ball out quickly. Seems to me the spread would be better suited to the bigger space eating lines rather than the quick athletic types.

i think reggie is well suited for the spread, but don't think it suites the other QB's very well. Remember after Chan's first year he said that he would not recruit drop back passers anymore? He recruited reggie and carter the next year, but EVERY other QB has been a traditional drop back passer. Remeber the reason for Gardner's decomit from UF - his skills didn't suit their offense - the spread.

Re: How do you guys see our personel complementing the

Couple of things. CJ can run in any offense but we need some quick receivers from our younger guys for the spread. I think our OL will be fine in the spread. In fact, I think it suits them well as you don't have to move the DL, you just shield and make them move where they want to go.

One correction though. Garner didn't decommit from UF because of the spread. Meyer didn't think he fit so he pulled his offer. I don't know what Gardner thought of the spread or whether the can make it work or not. You don't have to be a world class runner imo. What you have to be able to do is recognize what's going on, make an accurate read and pass and run enough to keep the D honest. But there are more ways than one to run the spread.

Well, if that's all there is to it, we should be in fine shape without any on the field changes. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eekhair.gif

Seriously, I hope RB can find a home as a slot receiver.
He may in fact cap off his Tech career with a great senior season.

Re: How do you guys see our personel complementing

RB's best chance of capping off a career with any remaining "greatness" would be as a kick returner. In all seriousness.
