Brandon Helwig at Rivals reported late last night that Quincy Kelly from Decatur, GA committed to us after returning from his official visit to Arkansas this weekend. He will visit GT officially Jan. 13...but says he grew up a GEORGIA TECH FAN....imagine that!

He is 6-1, 225...with 4.5-4.6 speed. He also plays LB....and because of his size and the few scholarships we have to give...he could easily play other spots if TB does not work out. HOWEVER...from those who have seen film (I have not yet)...he is an excellent TB with speed to the corner and size to run over you. As an added bonus...he is extremely local.

The coaches had him behind Jamaal...but ahead of Andre Anderson and Chris Evans on their board. It is still possible we keep our offer to Anderson out there.

Sweet. So where do you think this leaves our biggest void in recruiting, as far as positions go. Who are they really making up ground on or pushing hard to sign that would really make a BIG IMPACT on our recruiting class (in your opinion). These latest 2 additions have been awesome.
Let me know hiveredtech....Talk it up! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banana.gif

Exactly what we needs with the scholarship restrictions we have, a versatile guy who can be plugged into multiple positions and contribute.

Wellcome to the flats Brandon, study up!

The number of players we can sign may end up being higher than the 15 that we perceived.

...these are my takes and opinions...so...

I like Quincy Kelly's body...and like the fact our coaches have kept it almost completely silent...a perfect play.

We have 12 commitments...and 5 more to give if it is the right kid.

Top three- I think it is safe to say Tongo is a priority...with McCarthy and Neild right there with him. McCarthy has always like Ohio State...but our coaches and team have made the decision exceedingly difficult for him or else he would have committed to Tressell a long time ago....McCarthy is a Big 10 kid that just moved to Florida recently. Neild will be tough...he had a rushed visit because he came a day late....he likes the northeast...and he wants to major in Physical Education thus our loosing an edge at pitching strong academics.

#4 would be Demaryius Thomas most likely...although he is waiting on his test score. He far exceeds NCAA req's...but has to meet GT's. He is scheduled to visit this weekend.

Another most likely to commit is DeRon Jasper..the S from Dunwoody, GA. That would be five. The safeties we wanted ahead of him have grade trouble (Mario Edwards declined by Hill) and Mike Parker (waiting on test score and had to push visit to January). I do not know what is going on with Tim Atchison from Texas.

Lets say we do not get Neild...we liked Ricardo Matthews...but his grades did not pass The Hill. We could go after Reggie Odom for a late January visit...and there is the Devarin Geralds kid from Louisiana that is a better OL prospect than DT. It is always possible we do not take a DT this year and make it a priority next year.

Other kids out there we could end up getting are Andre Anderson (TB), Quinton Hancock (WR/DB), Terrence Jeffers (WR/DB), Buddy Buckner (DE)...and there are a few other names we are staying in contact with.

John, the kids name is Quincy Kelly. Brandon is the guy that runs the Rivals site.

Relax BOR, I only copied the name from refmover's post, I did not see this kid coming since I was waiting for Anderson or Evans, as a matter of fact he wasn't even in the rivals listings for tailbacks under GT, I briefly looked under LB's and ATH's and still did not see him.

Thomas has already stated that he wants to come to Tech. He's waiting on a science grade. Once he gets that he should commit. I think Tongo is ours also.

I believe that is what I said on DThomas...did not mean to indicate otherwise.

We probably get commitments extremely soon from Jasper...and hopefully Tongo. Thomas is just a matter of the test score.

DOH! can you tell i've been up all night with sick kids. Sorry Quincy Congratulations on the best decision you will not regret.

Re: Thomas

hivered you did. I was just going over who I thought would be coming our way. It's now being reported that Thomas will verbal this evening.

Re:TONGO

Great pickups on Tongo and Thomas, two I've been hoping for all season. Great size on both.

One recruit pulls the trigger a few days ago and the dominoes start falling. Looks to be an excellent class.

remember

we are getting NON-binding verbals, they aren't Jackets yet just a big step toward that.

That's a good point but verbals breed verbals. Hopefully, other recruits will see a good class being put together and jump on board as well.

Re: remember

This guy is obviously going to be a big success. I mean, his name is Tongo, if that isn't a great LB name, I don't know what is. I can hear the announcers now.

"Oh, thats another monster hit by Osahon Tongo"
"Looks like Tongo laid a snot knocker on the quarterback, looks like he's having some trouble getting up"

Ala would you like me to fill the rest of the glass for you since all of your posts have the glass half full mentality?
