OK, what would we have to lose by starting Bilbo.

hmmmm......

-> Maybe he would make mistakes ? (fumbling snaps, throwing into double coverage, interceptions? ).....Doing that now

--> Show a lack of leadership ? (doing now)

--> Inability to win, in two minute offense? (doing that now)

DO I need to continue ? Therefore, I am left with - what would we have to lose by having Bilbo play an entire game.

Lets discuss upsides

1. DB could get LOTS of valuable experience( and this would be worse case scenario)
2. We could at least play SOME option, and I would imagine quite well as a matter of fact
3. He MIGHT be better than good, by the end of the year, he could be VERY good..
4. He could spark a team that desperately needs a spark
5. He is the QB (probably) of the future - why not get him experienced now ?
6. If we're going to lose games this year (it looks that way now), why not get him some experience in the process and iron out some of the growing pains THIS YEAR
7. He looks (to me anyway) to be more of a leader than the alternatives
8. What do we have to lose ?

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">Maybe the question, from the coaches' POV, is "What does Damarius have to lose?"

All of what you say makes sense, GoldRush, which makes me think CG is considering something we're not considering.

And, who knows, by a week Thursday Bilbo may be the starter. Somebody posted that it's on the hive that Suggs is still the starter, per Gailey. I don't know what else he's supposed to say on Monday. He's not a panicky guy. That's a good thing.

Per GT Hotline Coach Gailey did say that AJ is the starter, "as of today." They are going to sit down as a staff and evaluate how much Bilbo will play. They are giving him "package" to work within the offense. They could add more to that as time goes on in practice.

you left out another plus, and that is that most of the team seem to support Bilbo as compared to Suggs. The chemistry is very clear when the offense is on the bench. Suggs seems aloof, the other players respond to Bilbo. Sooner or later, if they perceive the wrong man is at QB it will start to affect their attitudes, if it hasn't already.

This really makes me wonder what kind of career Joe would've had if he sat on the bench his freshman year. I remember he had something close to 7 TD & 14 INT in '96, then in '97 those stats were nearly reversed. And he went on to have a great career. Experience and learning from your own mistakes is something that is far more valuable than anything a coach can teach you or that you can observe on the bench. Besides, Suggs has had 3 chances to run the 2-minute drill in the clutch situation, and he failed all three. It's time to try something else.
The AJC reports that Gailey is changing the lineup to eliminate mistakes. I can only hope this is the change that is being made.

Thats a great point re: Hamilton, and what if he hadn't started early in his career. I agree...

I would just hate to see another 1 1/2 years of this, and THEN start a "new" QB after that period of time...Very frustrating.

I was first in line to support AJ and all that, but honestly, even in the two early wins, there were things that were disturbing (not looking off receivers, locking on to one target, over/under throwing long passes - hammering short passes making them hard to catch, lack of a "pocket presence", ie taking sacks instead of scrambling
or throwing it OOB, etc etc etc...

The problem is - rather than seeing gradual improvement over the 6 weeks, things just haven';t changed..

The most disturbing of all, is the lack of presence at the end of the games,...This is a very disturbing trend =- three golden opportunities to win at the end this year (two at Wake and one vs Clemmons), and both with good field position, comfortable amount of time etc, and couldn't get it done. Period

I was thinking about this very thing this morning (I know get a life right) and what is really bothering me is the fact that over at UGAg a sophmore is starting and is having more success than a player who had a year in our system to learn the Tech offense. Greene played last year WITH MUCH SUCCESS and is a much better QB than Suggs. This bothers me.

I think Bilbo is the more gifted athlete and I feel that Gailey should go ahead and play Bilbo now and see if he can take over like Greene has at UGAg.

I also heard that Shockley may be looking for a new home...

Actually Suggs might be better coming off the bench since the pressure of expectations are down. What is wrong with letting him be the change of pace when Bilbo gets flusted(as he will)?
