Bill Parcells - Falcons

I think it is a good thing, Arthur Blank is trying to bring a championship to Atlanta.

While I think this is a good move overall, I get confused by all the officials on an NFL team. You have a President, a VP, and a GM. Then a head coach and full coaching staff. What would a VP in charge of football operations do in contrast to the GM? Just my curiosity here.

Good thing? Great thing! Parcells has been a winner at the Giants, Jets, Pats, and Cowboys. His blunt attitude and respectable reputation may be the thing that this organization needs.

Not so fast my friend. The Dolphins are entering into the mix and probably have a slightly better situation to enter into (and probably more money - Huizenga is one of the richest owners in all of sports).

If he wasn't already so damn rich, I'd feel really sorry for Blank. Dude's had some serious bad luck.

Good Lord! Just another swift kick to the balls for this floundering franchise.

You won't be confused anymore! Parcells will run this show,,:laugher:

He's going to shop and buy the groceries on and off the field.

PS: Spoke too soon!

BP will be VP of FB operations in Miami. Atlanta and Blank were probably nothing more than leverage for Parcells --bet he was eyeing the Dolphins all the way.

The Falcons are just in a pitiful state right now --the franchise is at it's low point ...and that's saying something because if you've grown up here in Atlanta you know how bad things have been over the years.

This is certainly a low point... which will make it that much sweeter when Arthur Blank pulls us out of this mess (unless he decides to sell the team, which would surprise/disappoint me unless it's to buy the Braves!).

I have the utmost faith in Arthur Blank, if you look at how he built Home Depot and the reputation he created for that company, as well as his work in the community with the Falcons, I think you'd be hard pressed not to agree. I think he's learned that there's a certain way to do things in the NFL, and although he had ambitious ideas with Vick/Petrino the failure of that experience will push him in a more conservative direction....

Wow, talk about a tiger never changing it's stripes!

In the big-biz world of the NFL, I guess it's quite naive to expect much else from Parcells when his history is so well behaviorally documented.

Good article, thanks!

It was a bad move on Blank's part to even consider Parcells. He is not the type of football guy this team needs right now. He's the pro version of Petrino.

If Arthur wants to right this franchise he needs to offer the position of VP of Football Operations to Chan Gailey. I wouldn't want Chan as my GM or Head Coach, but I'd be very comfortable with letting him select both and head up the long term planning of the Falcons.
