Appreciate those of you who have listed your questions prior to the radio show. Makes it easy for the hosts to have the questions ready to go at air time and increases the odds exponentially that your questions will be answered.

Bill Wagner is going to be an excellent guest Wednesday night. As the Naval Academy football team beat writer forThe Capitol newspaper in Annapolis the past 8 years Bill personally attended every single football game that Paul Johnson coached.

In addition to being the beat writer for the Naval Academy football team Bill also writes for Lindy's pre-season college football magazine, the ACC football handbook and writes feature articles for the Maryland Terrapins football team.

Look forward to hearing the questions you have for Bill.

Thank You!

spongebuzz... you can listen to the recap by clicking on that link underneath my post.... the best part is you can fast forward past any of the "banter" that you don't particularly want to hear

Good show with good questions. It is clear that Mr. Wagner is a huge fan of Coach Johnson. There were many accolades for CPJ including:
-Knows how to call plays in a game. His adjustments are quick and correct.
-Is beloved by players because he shoots straight.
-Is great with the media. He has some great collquialisms. Said that he's not afraid to point out when the players aren't getting it done, but not in a way that undermines the individual. (I think his example was "if we can't make a 35 yd fg, then we don't deserve..."
-Hates to lose, and takes it personal when the team loses.
-Doesn't lie.
-Has extreme confidence in the offense. CPJ go for it on 4th down more than any coach he's ever seen. Says he's seen them go for it on 4 and 2 from their own 32. Anything under 3 yards on any point of the field is a candidate to go for it.

His accolades for CPJ and his offense included:
-Succeeds with many different types of quarterbacks (fast, smart, throwers, runners, etc.)
-Since CPJ knows this offense better than anyone, he has the advantage over the DC attempting to defend it. He's seen every gameplan against it, and he knows what we'd need to adjust to exploit it.
-Can beat superior athletic talent with the scheme

The only things he said to temper the enthusiasm were:
-It may take some time to get the right players for his style of play. He says the atheletes at GT will make a huge difference for the better, but that not all atheletes will want to accept the demands of the CPJ style.
-The beginning of his tenure may be tough, before the execution of the offense is crisp. He said Navy had that figured about 8 games thru the end of the 1st year.
-That the defensive coordinator at Navy didn't like working the 1st team D against the spread O in practice so much. Adamm and 33 explained how we did that in the spring, but once the season practices get underway we' won't.

My favorite quote was that he expects CPJ and GT to be competing for the national championship in due time.
