The expansion was from 46,000 to 55,000.

2003 and on, we averaged 7,535 more in attendance compared to average of 2000 and 2001.

I don't think we need another expansion, but we had decent success with the last expansion.

Our averages last decade and 2010:
2010: 46,449
2009: 51,584
2008: 47,489
2007: 50,280
2006: 50,617
2005: 51,607
2004: 46,817
2003: 52,862
2002: 43,156
2001: 41,685
2000: 42,671

We got some sellout crowds with a 60,000+ BDS in the 70s. If you can pry the alltime BDS attendance records out of the GTAA, I think you'd see an early 70s Auburn game and a couple of the GT-Mutts games at 65,000+.

I dont think BDS ever held 65,000

One thing that's interesting to me that even with (record-wise) the worst year GT's has seen in a long while, the average attendance was more than what was a pretty successful period for us (IIRC) in the early 2000's.

I'm glad we expanded, I just wish we had used a different architecture firm because whoever did this expansion did a terrible job.

While the upper north may not fill up very often these days; a couple years from now it will. The student body gets bigger each year, and hopefully with CPJ we'll be competing for the ACC about every year.

Largest capacity was 58,121 largest crowd ever 60,316 for UGA in 1973

I think the North Stands turned out pretty good considering the constraints of the Edge building and not being able to connect to the West stands due to ADA laws.

The lower east concourse is a straight up abomination. Horrible. Unsafe.

Tickets sold and attendance aren't the same. We were quite empty several games this year.

Expansion? I didn't think we needed the last expansion. It was good to upgrade the stadium, but additional seats were not needed. At some point, GT should let Supply-Demand work in their favor. We over supply our ticket market and hurt potential price earnings. With a smaller stadium, we might be able to create higher demand for the product and get better prices (or higher donations).

It's so easy to get into any GT game. Other than same-seat convenience, there is little reason to buy season tickets. Take a few thousand seats out and that dynamic changes.

We got more people out but we had a lower pct of capacity. That makes some sense and, overall, I guess the expansion is a success, though definitely not necessary. Still hate that its not full every weekend. Really surprised by 2010's numbers following an ACC Championship. Just shows that a lot of people are kinda "gameday" decisions and don't commit to tickets or at least, coming to the game, until the few days before a game and if the team is terrible, they probably don't come.

The other thing I don't understand is why our ticket prices are so expensive when the demand isn't that high.

Precisely. That's kinda what I meant by people deciding not to come when the team sucks.

Say what you will about our neighbors to the East, but the fans are there come hell or high water.

You don't have to pry away these, some of the stats from 40s and on are here: http://ramblinwreck.cstv.com/sports/m-footbl/archive/geot-m-footbl-archive.html

and all-time average attendance here:

Baloney. I'll let others post the pics.

They have propogated that myth so much even our fans believe it.

Remember we had the Rat seats down low, did those count back in the 70's as official seating?

I've been to 30 games or so in that stadium and I've never seen it as empty as ours even when we have big games. I'm sure it happens, and I've definitely seen fans clearing out early during a blowout loss.

Then again, when you're a Bulldog fan, you don't have much else going on in your life...

very surprised at the 2003 figures. wasn't this flunkgate year when some were saying we would only win 3 or 4 games?

The last 3 years of Chan have a higher average than the first 3 of Johnson. Seems odd.

Its one thing to say they have better attendance than we do and that's clearly true. Its another to say that the stadium is full during good and bad times regardless of the team cause that aint true. Also they have a massive fan base. It doesn't mean the fans that they have are more dedicated, they just have a lot more of them.

We had a frustrating year this year and the worst home schedule of my lifetime so its not surprising to me that attendance was down somewhat.

Our schedule is incredibly unbalanced. The odd year schedule includes Clemson, uga, and VT. The first 3 years of Johnson include 1 odd year and the last 3 years of Gailey includes 2 odd years.

2006 seems odd though, although we did open at home with ND if I remember correctly.

2003 we had Auburn, UGA, and Clemson at home.

2006 we took Notre Dame to the wire in the home opener and only lost once (on the road to Clemson)more before the last away game at UGA.
