Boogeyman Johnson

Surprisingly good read from the bleacher report.

I freaking love our coach and our brand of football. We have one of the best coaches in the land, hands down.

Interesting how they brought up the coaching tree that Johnson has. I wonder how long it takes for a P5 school to catch on and grab Monken or Bohannon.

You know.... I read all the links given to Bleacher in hopes of something worth a read. This was a first I do believe. See, there is reason for hope. You found a good article by Bleacher Report.
Thank you!!

The offense was gathered on the sideline when Johnson came over to them and said, "You want to score a touchdown?"

Johnson then made up a play, as if he was drawing it up on dirt in the mountains of his native North Carolina.

"We ran the new play, which we had obviously never practiced before, on the first play of the next drive," Bedford said. "Just as coach promised us he would, the safety came flying up to stop what he thought was a counter option, which allowed [quarterback] Josh Nesbitt to hit Embry Peeples in stride for an 87-yard touchdown pass."

wow

He stumped them when he was trying to explain how teams get a first down.

"We use four downs to get a first down," he said with a sly smile. "Most everybody else uses three."
Love this

Ray Glier, who wrote the article, is a longtime sportswriter in the South. Used to be a USA Today correspondent and was years ago, IIRC, the sports editor of a now defunct paper in Knoxville. So he kinda knows his stuff.

Gotta love CPJ. Here's my favorite quote:

VanGorder ridiculed the option game Georgia Southern had run with great success under Johnson. "He said something about bringing them into the 21st century," Johnson said. "And I said, 'There's a [scoring] record there, shoot for it.'"

I hope we punish these out of timers ND, and hang 50+ on them, then they will realize it's time to get over it.

P.S I've been drinking, just like I plan to do tomorrow. THWG

Why would Maryland think they could lure him away? Lateral move at best...at this point really a step down.

There certainly may be a school that could lure him away...but it's not Maryland.

I don't think people who understand the realities of college football end up as Maryland fans.
