Bowden had ultimatum of "beat GT or get fired".

Clemson's AD Phillips, told Bowden last week that he either beat GT or he would be fired. This morning, Bowden went into Phillips office and agreed to leave now.

I wonder if Bowden reviewed film on us and decided there was little chance of winning? Needless to say I find it interesting that he was given the ultimatum to beat GT or lose his job and he made his own fate before even playing us.
 
his teams' play is inline with those actions.

I'd quit too. That's a stupid ultimatum. OK so he beats Tech. What then "Beat FSU or your fired." Then its "beat VT or your fired."

Either he's the guy you want running your program or he isn't. If he isn't, have the nads to fire him yourself without making it seem like he did it to himself for not winning a game no different than any non-rivalry game.
 
BS on the assumption that he viewed tape. That cat wanted out without having to listen to the Booing that was going to be raining down on him before, during, and after the game. The fact is the would still booed his ass even if he beat us. IPTAY has had enough of his crap and they were starting to hold the Univ hostage untill AD cut him. His fate was sealed w/ maryland & Wake.

I don't doubt your assumption though. He probably didn't want the heat. Apparently he told Papa Bowden that he expected to be fired very soon.
 
Dang, I'm surprised he didn't "resign" right there when he was given that ultimatum.

What are you supposed to do with a bunch of egotistical football players who think they are better than they really are and don't want to do anything but just point fingers at everyone else but themselves?

I hope CPJ makes it a point to keep our guys on the ground, disciplined, and humble on and off the field.
 
Since TB resigned, does this mean clumpson is off the $4 million hook ?

:laugher:. Uh no. Tommy will be getting 3.5 mil in addition to getting paid for the rest of the season. Expect to see him next to Lou Holtz in the near future.

That's the main reason I want to win this game. Those whining babies at Clemson don't deserve to beat this team. Maybe that's a little harsh but I truly feel this way... Especially when it comes to Cullen Harper.
 
I heard that he was told to fire Spence and he refused. They then negotiated his exit. The GT thing may also have been included. Then again, I seem to remember a story about someone painting the arch at the cesspool gold.... Hmmm. :p

That's the official story, anyway.

What really happened, was they said "resign or you're fired," and Tommy said "pay my full buyout or I won't resign" and they said "sure" and he said "okie dokie."
 
Yet another Bowden shrewdly getting paid NOT to coach, doesn't that make three of them so far?
