Bowl Travel Expenses

IIRC, bowls typically give schools an allotment for travel expenses. Since we're not actually travelling to our bowl this year, do we still get the money, or is it based solely on actual expenses?

I'm pretty sure that the payout is meant to cover any travel expenses...and you keep whatever the payout is minus travel expenses. So we should keep all/most of it.

I read something recently that states that the ACC splits the payout from bowls amongst every member after expenses are taken away. I'll go try to find something to back that up, though.

Revenue is shared from bowl payouts. That is why I was under the assumption we were given an allotment for expenses. I'll do some digging too now.

Which normally wouldn't be good, but with 10 teams going this year every ACC school is going to benefit well.

I'll have to dig around for it later... but I recall discussion last year on whether or not we make or lose money by attending mediocre bowls like the Humanitarian.

As I understand it, we get the full allotment and we're blowing it on hookers and liquor over at All-American Package.

At halftime.

Found a link.

Other conferences, including the Atlantic Coast, Pacific-10 and Western Athletic, also divide money evenly after expenses. The Pac-10, said spokesman Jim Muldoon, gives "teams a set expense budget plus actual charter costs. It depends on what bowl you go to." Muldoon said the league will pay $300,000 for Arizona State to help cover expenses to the Sheraton Hawaii Bowl, calling that game a special case.

Not sure where to find the link...

I heard an interview with CPJ talk about when he coached at hawaii and he said that one year when they played in the aloha bowl, the kids had more fun than actually going somewhere.
I think they put the team up in a nice hotel, have fancy food, and kinda live it up just like they are out of town. Maybe see the sights and everything.

I hope they do this, the team really earned the chance to have some fun.
Maybe they will do some sight-seeing.
I work at the Atlanta History Center, maybe they will come here! Nah, probably not.

I thought you got the full payout, regardless of what you spend on travel, etc. The remainder is divided among the tenured season ticket holders that have endured years of famine on The Flats.

rim shot!
