Brad jefferson out

Im sure it will be online somewhere soon. But all this is coming straight from him.

For the next couple of games. Big blow to the defense.

LB is a major concern of mine along with OL.. We don't have quality depth at LB and our OL is learning a new scheme without a lot of depth either.
DB is a nice surprise I.H.M.O. we have 8 or 9 DB's that are talented and athletic along with the best Dline in the country...I am concerned at LB especially now with Jefferson out...

Jefferson is the best lb IMO by far. He said it doesnt look to good that he will play against va tech.

AT barnes will start saturday!

that is big news..kind of lessens the blow.

AT barnes is a step above Jefferson..

I think Jefferson's ceilling higher though...

That is great news... I wouldn't be surprised to see our backups step up enough to hold their Offense to low points. I think one of our biggest problems is our Offensive line. I went back and watched the film and the guys looked decent. Still a long way to go to get where we need to be, but they are new to the system and should get better. BC's defense is really good. I don't think we will get blown out though.

I disagree with the lack of quality LB depth. I would argue that we may not be stellar at the top, but that we are very deep with talent that wouldn't be that much of a dropoff. With Bowen, Griffin, and Chambers Thursday, we didn't lose much effectiveness. So we're pretty good in the top 6. I also think Tongo, Rocker, and Clark are decent from 6-9. That's not a lack of quality depth i.m.o.

Bowen/Griffin/Chambers is not a quality line against ACC opponents.

Interesting that you say that. Just two weeks ago the coaches said that if anyboy had their LB position locked up it was Jefferson....but the other two were still wide open.

Jefferson is also the player responsible for making sure everyone is in the right defense, and making any last second adjustments he sees.

Don't get me wrong, Barnes is a great LB and one we cannot lose. Jefferson is more versatile imo.

I don't mean to knock individual players, but, (Outside of Barnes and Jefferson) I don't think we have the LB talent we have had in the past (Wheeler, Guyton, Brooking, Smith Exct.)
I have high hopes for the 3 Frosh. that we are suppose to redshirt...
We need to recruit better at LB...

I think Chan brought in the best Dlineman ever at GT and it looks like we have some very athletic DB,s and the new schemes and better coaching will show with our DB's... But, i am concerned at LB..

The same EXACT thing was said when Wilkinson, Reese, and some youngun named Wheeler were taking over for Smith, Fox, and Brown. 5 out of those 6 players are in the NFL. I understand your sentiment, but don't sell these guys short just yet. It's way too early for that. ..... I hope.

..... I hope.
I certainly hope so also..I like Sed. Griffin and his speed, he needs more consistency though...I really wish we had not lost the Gresham commit to S.C.

How have the 3 Frosh. looked in practice ? I know the coaches were real high on Machen and Munroe has good speed.

That is so true. When we recruit kids they are hugely popular...and when they are returning starters...everyone in between is forgotten.

Jefferson and Barnes were big-time recruits that we had to wrestle major SEC and ACC programs for...and have NFL bodies...plus they are young.

Osahon Tongo was a big-time recruit...we battled the major Big 10 programs for him.

Travis Chambers picked GT over LSU.

Malcolm Munroe was a tough get last year...beat out major SEC/ACC programs for him.

I would put Albert Rocker in the Key Fox mold...a tweener (DE/LB) in high school that got overlooked but has tremendous upside potential due to athleticism.

...and there are others...

We have a lot of athleticism and skill there...high levels. They are just young and have had little playing time because of the young men ahead of them staying healthy and being multi-year starters...and Tenuta did not like subbing much.

The comments I've heard from Johnson have been VERY high on the three frosh LB's. He's been glowing about all 3, but has been praising Sylvester the most.

I agree, it'd be ideal to have Gresham or at least his equal in the fold of this year's recruiting class to go with Watts. There seem to be plenty of highly rated LB's to go around in our neck of the woods this year. I hope we get one more of them.

..and we will likely get David Durham in 2010

The news about Jefferson is unsettling. He has a special quality. Headhunter mentality that can help lead the D. Hopefully the "underlings" step up and take advantage of playing time to shine. Which may well happen.

GO TECH! THWBC!!
