Remember this guy. I have been all over this board since Saturday trying to drum up support for him as the new Head Coach when/if Coach Gailey resigns/fired. No takers so far despite the job he is doing as Georgia's Def.Coordinator. Why? Hey I am open for suggestions on other coaches. But tell me why this Coach does not excite readers of this board. I promise you starting Saturday Corso and Fowler and company are going to start dropping his name around just like they did the Fridge. I heard it today on a ESPN soundbite and that will be just the beggining. Before long someone will give him his chance. I hope it is Tech!

I would bet the farm that UGA would never let him go esp. to GT! They would do anything to keep him, unlike GT.

Agree with you about how good it would bee, but we are not that lucky. However, if committee did, or does, their homework, there should be more like him out there somewhere.

Sure!! Why the hell not? I am not willing to go through Lewis era II.
I Chan is just now figuring out that we need to recruit then he needs to leave quickly...as in yesterday.

Van Gorder may be a great coach BUT... he's only been at the D1 level 2 seasons... I would think that he needs a couple more to get a full grasp not on the game but all the Management aspects that go on behind the scenes... HC is a huge responsibility and requires tons of time away from the field and knowing who to hire in all the little areas that we as fans rarely see....
I would be much more excited to see...
NORM CHOW the OC from Southern California... what an extensive resume he has as an OC, asst. HC, QB coach, WR coach and recruiting coordinator... he has produced some of the best offenses and the best QB's in the past 20 years at BYU... by the by he was the OC in 2000 at NCSt.... and he just beat the snot out of a pretty good defense from South Bend...
That's the man to lead our program... return us to scoring 30+ per game...
But alas... it'll never happen...

No. He's not that good. He'd be a terrible head coach. Really, you don't want him ;-)

Actually, there was an article in the Chattanooga paper a few weeks ago and the writers asked him about the possibility of becoming a head coach and he said he was happy doing what he's doing. He's been a head coach before (Wayne State) so maybe he's just happy being a DC. I do find that hard to believe, though.

cd, he's done a great job and will get the opportunity for HC if he keeps it up. The monetary difference is too great between the HC and DC for him not to give it serious consideration if offered.

It is really hilarious to read all these post about getting Xxxx Xxxxx as our new head coach. Hello!! We have a head coach. You can be assured Braine and the committee will not get rid of him after one year. Your only hope is his self resignation.

Maybe we should wait until we have a vacancy!

It boggles my mind how this country works. Yes Brian Van Gorder is a good defensive coordinator and has an extraordinary ability to make the right type of adjustments during a game instead during the following weeks practice, but two years at a major football University is NOT enough of a track record to suddenly make him the next Pope of college football. We are stoked to have him and if he is as smart as we think he is he will stay put for several years to come.

One day he maybe given a shot to coach a major college football program, but he needs to build a foundation like Mickey Andrews before schools start throwing obscene cash in front of his face to coach their schools. We are far to quick to jump on the success bandwagon in this country!

I heard he was going to run Al Gore's relection campaign because he's so good at making adjustments. Maybe he can adjust Gore's head for him.

I read today in the Chattanooga Times that Van Gorder is one of 5 finalist for the nations assistant coach of the year, the award that the Fridge won while with Tech. I would say his learning curve his very small. I am glad to see his work is being noticed already on a national basis. I could care less how small his time as a DC is. It is the results that count and nothing else.
