Bucs hire Grudin (LINK)

Did TB improve their HC position with this hire? Is Gruden better than Dungy. I say no. These guys have had similar success (consistent playoff appearances and then getting knocked out in the early rounds...both had 1 appearance in the conference championship game and lost). One is defensive-minded. The other is offensive-minded. Both have improved the team over what they inherited. Both have leveled off.

Dungy's record from '98 through '01 is 39-29
Gruden's record from '98 through '01 is 40-28

Oh wow. What a difference.

I say that TB is no better off with Gruden at the helm. Comments?

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">It depends really on how good the DC is...if he is good and learned from Dungy, Gruden can concentrate on the offense and then TB might make some progress in the playoffs. If Dungy was the defense, then Gruden will not be an improvemnt.

I don't know if they'll end up doing better, but it was probably a good move. There offense is what has been the problem for so long, so bringing in Gruden should help that.

But, as far as money goes and what they gave up, I'm not so sure. $17 mil over 5 years is a bunch, and they also gave up 2 first round picks and 2 second round picks. Change my opinion to it was a bad move.

Oh, I don't know, I guess only time will tell.
