Paul Johnson came to Georgia Tech to win championships. Not in two years, but one day. He put some blocks in place last year, and although we are 5-1 this year, (and improving as a team) not many outside TechNation are willing to acknowledge that progress. I think this game was circled on the calendar a while ago in much the same way as the game in Athens was last fall. However irritating it is to admit, there's no denying that Virginia Tech has set the standard in the ACC since FSU has faded. You might say they filled the vacuum created by Miami, FSU, the Tech of Chan Gailey, and Clempsen. No matter how it happened, Virginia Tech is on top in this conference until somebody claims that spot. CPJ talks about "taking respect". We can't win a championship tomorrow, but we take a big step on that road.

We badly need this game if GT wants to start being considered an elite program. Of course, it all doesn't depend on one game, but one game can provide the extra boost that has been so elusive to GT arguably ever since 1990.

We can live with the loss if we can break double digit wins.

This is not a deal breaker game. It would be disappointing to lose, a setback, and another opportunity by the boards, but it won't kill what is gaining momentum here. If we ended up in a bowl and won, have a 10-3 or 9-4 record it would be "on schedule" because last year was such a bonus. When Paul Johnson was signed, any Tech fan would have taken 18 wins in the first two years and shouted 'Hallelujah!' and hugged his neck. That's another reason I think we will win---we don't have a lot of pressure to do it.

I want us to win very badly - no more than the rest of the fans and surely not as much as the coaches and players who work hard to be successful week by week.

But, any idea that a loss to Virginia Tech is unacceptable would be ridiculous. This is our conference's best program with a team that has played well. They are one of the best teams in the nation.

Come Saturday about 9:30 I will be ecstatic if we have prevailed and be mad and spouting off if we have lost. But, by Monday, with a little perspective, it will be time to put all the attention on beating UVA.

At the end of the year we will evaluate the building process under Paul Johnson. He did a very good job in year #1. I think when all is said and done year #2 will be a success as well.

The rest of our games after VT will all be very winnable. I'll be happy with 10-2 going into the bowl game.

Heck, I'd be happy with 9-3 going into the bowl as long as UGA wasn't one of the 3. Or Virginia.

11-1 is preferable.

Bingo!

Probably less than 10% chance that even if we win, we'll win the division. Likewise, with the number of mid-majors who are playing well this year, and the PC pressure to invite them to the BCS, and the prospects of both Miami and VT finishing the season 11-1/10-2, the chances of going to a BCS bowl are equally slim. So a loss will most likely won't hurt any post-season plans for us at all.

Would it be a big statement to win? Yes. Should we be able to play looser than VPI? Yes. Winning this game is critical for them. They are in the MNC hunt, and also losing to us puts them in a very tenuous 3-way tie for the Coastal lead.

They are the ones who should be tight tomorrow, not GA Tech.

We are winning this game.

My attitude going into this game has evolved a lot throughout the week. Dammit, I have started envisioning VPI players looking dejected in the 4th quarter and our guys hopping around and grinning. My expectations are high, but they oughtta be, right?

I like to look at it like this: After tomorrow (if we win), we'll have UVA, Duke and Wake (at home) left to get to 7-1. Miami will have UVA, Duke, @Wake, Clemson & @UNC left. A lot of things can happen in 5 games.:fingersx:
