... Hello Chick-Fil-A Bowl:

http://www.ajc.com/gatech/content/sports/1205/16peach.html

It's looking like the Peach is going to end up with our #2 pick rather than the Gator Bowl. With the upgrade to the Champs Sports Bowl our lineup may look something like:

#1 BCS, $15M
#2 Peach, $3M
#3 Gator, $2.5M
#4 Champs Sports, $2M
#5 Music City, $1.5M
#6 Muffler, $1M
#7 Boise, $750K
#8 Emerald, $750K

Don't quite know how dropping 'Peach' positions them better for the BCS, and I wish they would have kept Peach and it's Georgia (state of) ties

I think the new name sounds silly. Seriously, how is the title of 'Chick-fil-A Bowl' supposed to help them?

It's going to help them sell Chicken Sandwiches.

I also think it is awful. Chick-Fil-A is paying them more $$$ to change it, so they can increase the payout, that's how it helps them.

Is management at Chic fil A total idiots? I don't care how much they pay. Major bowls don't drop their heritage: Rose Bowl, Fiesta Bowl, Sugar Bowl, Orange Bowl, Cotton Bowl. They may have sponsors, but don't drop their history.

Minor bowls might - MPC Computers bowl & GMAC Bowl come to mind.

The Chic Fil A bowl sounds like a second rate bowl that will never get a BCS tie in. The Chic Fil A Peach might.

What they are actually doing is GUARANTEEING free advertising in a college stadium. Lets say GT wins the bowl. Do you just add the year to our "Peach" total? Nope, the Peach doesn't exist any longer. So you must put a large sign saying Chic-Fil-A in your stadium, if you want to tout your accomplishments. That sign stays there for years advertising Chic-Fil-A to the masses. Tech may get paid for the bowl, but the years of free ads is what Chic-Fil-A is after.

I hate that.

Sneaky bastiges.

I hate to say this, but the scenario of sponsorship of every game, not just bowl games was predicted years ago. Tech, I think dabbled with it a few years back.

The thought of the "Quicktrip Ga. Tech vs. Virginia Clash", and "Honey Baked Ham Tech/ga. Holiday Classic" may be as close to reality as it is sickening.

I really do see this happening.

Looks like I didn't get the order right, Boise is going to be #8 on the list. Also we get a promise to correct this year's unfairness, but no hard rules about who go where, just a promise that the ACC execs will place the teams:

Sounds like there is still plenty of room to get screwed in the setup next year.

Best way to avoid it is to win the conference, I suppose.

JJ, Chic fil A management is probably the exact opposite of idiotic. For them the prime objective is the almighty dollar and woe be to anyone or any bowl standing in the way.

I don't care how much they pay. Major bowls don't drop their heritage: Rose Bowl, Fiesta Bowl, Sugar Bowl, Orange Bowl, Cotton Bowl. They may have sponsors, but don't drop their history.
Major bowls SHOULDN'T drop their heritage: This is true except when the almighty dollar rears it's head. Amazing how we can be manipulated and controlled isn't it.

The article kind of mentions it but I don't think they made a big enough deal about the fact that the two highest non-BCS bowls are now totally corporate titled.

I don't know their CEO is a Tech grad, but a businessman nonetheless so they're doing what all companies do getting exposure that will help them sell more of their product. I'm with you all, I just hate the commercialism in today sports.

I hate the name drop too, but looking at it from the carrot and raisin salad side, it can be argued successfully that the Peach was nothing until C-fil-a sponsored it. I believe it was moving the game to the dome that saved it.

Wasn't Leeman Bennett the bowl director that got Truett Cathey involved?

Chick-fil-A has done an outstanding job with the Peach Bowl since taking over sponsorship in 1997.

That being said, I am a traditionalist, and I hate that after 38 years the 'Peach Bowl' in name will be gone.

Chick-fil-A bowl just does not sound right.

Speaking of tradition, I'd like to see GT go back to white shirts-gold pants for home games.

At least we don't have Nike dressing us or they would be white with an "arena team" like stripe around it and probably have one orange sleeve. Russell has done us well.

BTW, at the mall today I was walking along with my Tech hat on. Gentleman looks at me, kinda nods and says: "What's the good word?"

"To Hell with Georgia!" was his answer.

Great to finally not have to hear the expected "How 'bout them...." I can't bring myself to write the rest.

Not surprising. You said he was a gentleman!

By the way, nothing wrong either with "White shirts, Yellow britches, Give'm hell you sons of ________!!

Not only do I refer to my team as the "Yellow Britches", I am one of the majority that also hopes for the return of white shirts at home.
