Anybody else see this tone -deaf message that Cabrera put out on VOLLEYBALL after the Ole Miss debacle? The comments are pure gold.

(Akinji - way to represent, well done)

Would you rather he say nothing about athletic success? Accentuate the positive as they say.

If we're actually waiting for a lower buyout cost, nothing good comes from Cabrera making public comments about the state of the football program. Whether waiting is the right call or not, there's no upside to Cabrera publicly weighing in on Collins or Stansbury. He's not making statements of support, which is a sign in and of itself.

I would rather him say something acknowledging that football exists and that he actually cares about it. Nothing from either him or TStan since the debacle on Saturday.

The women's volleyball team beat u(sic)ga, and he tweeted about it. This a) has nothing to do with Football (or did this become the football/women's volleyball forum like hockey and basketball?) b) is absolutely nothing to get all butthurt about. It's a freaking tweet congratulating a GT athletic team, not a ticker-tape parade costing millions. Jesus.

Yeah but his point is the tweet, and especially the timing of the tweet, show the guy is completely out of touch with the attitude of the fanbase. I'm excited when we beat Georgia in anything... But on the same day as the waxing at home from Ole Miss and not even acknowledging it? Come on, that just makes you look like a jerk.

The timing of the tweet was the same day as the volleyball match. It's not like he sat on it for a week and used it to distract from g***** c******'s failures. What would you expect him to say? "Congrats to GT volleyball. Boo GT football, you suck!"

It's perfectly valid to be angry with him for not firing Stansbury and ending the embarrassment that is GC, but his tweet about the volleyball team beating our hated rival is perfectly valid and has nothing to do with football.

Actually, I'm pretty sure that essentially saying, "Not only do I not care about women sports, but I think publicly acknowleding they exist when football isn't doing well makes you look like a completely out of touch jerk" is what makes you look like a jerk.

I'm upset about the football team too. I also don't really follow about women's sports. But ripping the President of the university for making a positive tweet about women's volleyball beating U[sic]GA is dumb and, frankly, insulting to our female athletes.

I don’t care if it’s cornhole. I want GT to beat UGAY in anything.

öööö volleyball. I mean it. öööö it. Literally go get a volleyball, get your junk out, and öööö it.

Machete is just mad he didn’t think to watch volleyball instead of the Ole Miss beat down. I’m right there with him though. I’m only mad at Cabrera for not suggesting we all do the same. Well that’s not completely true, I’m also pissed he hasn’t fired Tstan and clown yet.

Enjoyed the Paul Johnson years and was sad to see him go. Even sadder now than I was in 2018. Johnson was a wise, no-nonsense football coach and great leader of young men whose teams gave us lots of successes.

It feels a bit unsavory to talk about possible next head coaches while we still have one, but should Collins be let go, I hope we'll consider pursuing another system coach, like Monken or Niumatalolo. I find the arguments of beej67 persuasive. The landscape of college football has changed. We have major disadvantages at Tech, and any new coach needs to have a plan for overcoming them. The option has been demonstrated to be a talent-equalizer to some degree. No, Monken and Niumatalolo aren't world-beaters at their current schools, but they operate with even greater limitations on their football programs, yet have still had great seasons.

The Collins plan to overcome Tech's disadvantages was to make Tech cool, make it Atlanta's team, recruit top players and win with talent and culture. He hasn't managed enough success to bootstrap that plan. Instead he's now lost so much that building any hype back seems far-fetched. I guess the Collins plan could work but it's become clear that the salesmanship would need to be coupled with excellent coaching.

I will hope for a return of the option or another system coach, but I'm afraid the big money people long for the Tech of the O'Leary years, or worse the Tech of the 1950's. They just tried to re-create it and failed epically. Maybe they will have learned a lesson.
