I saw a post on another Tech message board from somebody I respect a great deal and who usually has a great deal of inside info. on the Tech football program. It was a reply to a post and it basically said he thinks AJ should continue to start and that Coach Gailey will keep AJ #1. I am not going to say his name, but I am sure you know the person everyone on that board drools over his posts during recruiting and other times. This post upset me a great deal for a number of reasons. The main one being it disheartened me as a true Tech fan who went to all games except for 3 in the past 4 years(home and away). I can't go to the games now because I am in law school, but that is another subject. It disheartened me because I truely believe we have a much better shot a getting to where we want to be with Bilbo leading the team from now on. I have made my point in many posts (see recruiting tools and game review that were posted the past few days) while trying not to flame AJ to bad. Anyways, I have been reading your posts for about 2 years on here and the hive and think you always have one of the most rational opinions of anyone (not trying to show disrespect to any other poster on here). I went to every single spring practice and all the practices I could attend this summer until I started law school and maybe I am not seeing it right, because being from Mississippi I was rooting for Bilbo to win the job from the get go, but I really want Suggs to do well while he was in there because I am a TECH fan first. I believe the future starts today and Bilbo is our future. WHAT IS YOUR TAKE ON THE SITUATION? Sorry it was so long and rambling, but what I thought was an unwavering faith in CG and BOB is not that anymore, espicially if AJ is still the starter. Please help me regain the perspective I use to have and I have seen that you seem to always have. Thanks.

The poster that you're speaking of has the right to his/her

opinion and he/she is much closer to the program, the coaches, and the players than you and I will ever be. I'm sure he/she has good reason to keep his/her confidence in AJ and I respect that.

FWIW, I'm not so sure that naming DBo the QB for the rest of the season is best for GT either (especially if it's true that he's having difficulty learning the playbook).

MJ, I'd say we'll have to leave that call to the coaches, since they are much closer to the situation than we are.

AJ does seem to have some inherent weaknesses which will keep him from ever being a great QB we'll talk about in future years, though he can certainly improve with the proper help. It's not clear from the outside looking in that he is being looked to as the team leader.

On the other hand, DB has shown the ability to scramble and a strong arm. But the coaches say he knows only a limited number of plays. One has to wonder how long it will take him to expand his playbook.

It's quite a quandary.

Many have suggested, as you have, that we go with DB and let him grow into the job so he's optimum at the start of next season, and i can understand this thinking.

On the other hand, I'm not convinced we cannot be successful by using both QB's, switching them between drives or even between plays as we did against FSU last time they visited the Flats (and were leading going into the 4th qtr). For one thing, the possibility we'll use either makes opponents have to spread out their practice, being less prepared for either.

After the game, 790 was quoting CG as saying we'd be going with one QB at MD. If that's true, I have no idea which it will be.

Since we're calling very few audibles, I'm not sure how important it is to have the most knowledgeable guy in there at critical times, like down the stretch.

Finally, thanks for the kind words, but I'm just a fan like yourself, and not capable of providing any "expert advice" (at least in sports).

For any who missed my AM post, here are some play images from the WF game, for those without tapes:

Thank you goldtimer. That was exactly what I needed. I just wanted a perspective from someone I think has a level head. I hope one day I have as much wisdom and as good of perspective as you have. I am only 23 and sometimes my passion gets the better of me. I have always enjoyed and respected your posts. Thank you!

For the other person that responded to my post. I was not in any way trying to squash someone else's opinion. I love the stuff that person posts. I would never presume to know more about Tech ball than that person does. During the recruiting season I check that board probably 10 times a day to see if he posts anything. I appriciate everything he does for everyone on that board and for what he does for Tech football. As much as I respect and admire goldtimer's post, I respect that person just as much. That is the reason I posted what I did because I respect his opinion so much. I mean to disrespect nobody, even if they do have a totally different opinion than I do.

Have a nice day and thanks to all that responded.
