I enjoyed watching Booker play in the 2nd half. He has a strong arm, tried to make things happen, and tried to lead with some passion. Getting us from 27-7 to 34-28 was terrific. I applaud his efort.

I don't think he will have the foot speed to be our QB next year. But, I hope he gets the chance in the Spring and I wish him well. I also just don't see the ball handling and quick decision making skills in Nesbitt to make me confident he will be the answer at QB. Ball handling and decision making are more essential to being a great option QB than athleticism.

Some of the best option QB's just made uncanny reads and handled the ball like wizards. Georgian Dee Dowis at Air Force was one of my favorites along with Danny Myers during my days at Tech. Spring will be very interesting in the QB derby.

Nesbitt gives a TON of effort. I will give him that. He tries so hard to run over people that I'm amazed he doesnt do it sometimes.

Booker amazed me with his ability to throw on the run. I am very impressed with that.

Agree on Myers - the kid just knew how to win. His aerial hook-ups with Raible were always long-gainers.

Ifwe had had even a nominal defense those years, we might have been in the hunt for MNC's.

Not sure if it was during Myers' years, but wasn't it at some point during Pepper's reign that we had the Chan-esqe loss to define all Chan-esqe losses, 0-9 to Duke when we were otherwise very high in national scoring and offense?

Yep. That was in '74 when we went 6-5. Kept us from a bowl. Game was winnable when All-American Randy Rhino mishandled a punt late in the 4th. They also played just as bad in Durham two years later. Pepper sent an OL into the game who got his feet tangled up in a coach's headset. The headset flew off and conked Pepper on the head - it knocked him loopy.

Remembering games like those in Durham in '74 and '76 I understand why I was willing to "settle" for Chan's winning seasons and minor bowls. I made those drives to Durham and lost both times. I was delighted as an alum who moved up here after graduation we beat them in '78.

I'm as glad as anybody to move in new directions; we as a school and a football program need it, but there is that aspect of triple option ball that we shouldn't forget in our ecstasy - it can give you wondrous highs like beating ND without a single pass, 700 yards on the ground vs So Carolina, then produce inexplicable disasters like Duke '74 and Auburn (same mid-70's time period) where we got ahead 28-0 at the half then spent the 2nd half fumbling the game away.

I remember listening to those games on family trip to mountains in car.I was so pissed my wife thought I was going to kill them driving.

I drove up to one of those Duke games (76/77) from Wilmington. Very sad day.

And I was at the Auburn game. Tony Head had put us up with a couple of big runs, one where he ran straight over an Auburn Dback. Sad.
