Fellow fans. Who sees this as a legitimate possibility for his JUNIOR season (what some seem to think will be his final year in GT uniform.) I personally think he has more than enough talent to obtain such a feat but do we have the resources (QB & Offensive schemes) to help this talented athlete reach an otainable goal???.... It would be great to see CJ have a record breaking season this year. Perhaps a bit of a stretch but I'd like to see him come back for his Senior year....He & his family have always stressed the importance of academics along with being a athlete.
Whatever the case may be, I hope he remains healty & has a stellar year! HERE'S TO CALVIN & A GREAT YEAR AT A POSITION THAT HE WAS BORN TO PLAY.....NO MATTER WHAT I WILL CONTINUE TO WATCH/SUPPORT HIM IN THE NFL (SOONER/LATER, LET THE CHIPS FALL WHERE THEY MAY!!) /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banana.gif

The NFL is making it easier to get back and get your degree. Much more than in the past. I don't know who the clear cut favorites are this year but he definitely should be in the top 5

Right now Brady Quinn will be the one to beat with the ND #1 ranking and the NFL scouts chattering about him. Plus...the whole ND thing. It does not take much for them to get publicity. Plus...he is a senior. Junior Adrian Peterson of Oklahoma will be right there with him, as will senior Troy Smith of Ohio State.

Calvin will be going head to head with junior Dwayne Jarrett of Southern Cal for top WR in the nation and will definitely be one of the Top 10 players in the country.

My opinion is that Calvin would be the #1 WR taken in the draft if he came out.

Willingham won 10 in '02 and Notre Dame was supposedly back. Weis wins 9 against lackluster opposition and they are supposedly back.

Look at their schedule and look at ours. We played MUCH tougher opposition overall. Their opposition without OSU and USC, won just over 40% of their games.

Brady will be running for his life.

We are gonna kick ND's ass back into yankeeland - welcome to the southeast boys.

Calvin will dominate the day.

Unfortunately Calvin's performance on the field is directly related to Reggie's ability to get him the ball, judging by the last few years I would say that is going to be a problem. Remember judging purely by the numbers, Calvin didn't fit into the All America category, but it is his ability to make the amazing catches (ala shitty passes from Reggie) that brought him his fame. I'm not saying that he can't put up better numbers, just that that will be hard to do with the limited ability of Reggie.

I agreed with you right up to the Joe Gaston injury. We are going to be hurting in the secondary I think and therefore I am not quite as confident as you. Otherwise I think ND is overrated too, but I am worried that their passing game will give us fits. The saving grace is that Chan has had his team ready for the first big game of the season.

I hate that Joe Gaston is hurt, but you're suggesting you're confidence in how our defense will be changed due to one injury to one player who hasn't really done anything in the past? Not knocking Joe at all, but he's been a backup for his career. Why would you put that much emphasis on him being the defensive saviour? Personally, as much as I'd love to have him, I wasn't expecting All ACC caliber play from him this year anyway. We are thin at DB and will be young, and the injury doesn't help. But I don't think Joe was the key to our defense.

Like I said before, I don't think anyone stopped NDs passing attack last year by covering their receivers and I doubt anyone will do it this year. The way to keep them out of the end zone is to get to Quinn. If we do that we can beat them. If he can stand in the pocket and throw on time, we'll have to outscore them. It's as simple as that to me.

interesting article today in AJC....say's he's not going to watch the draft this year & has missed the last two years...He's active in FCA which has retreats around the same time each year that he participates in...says if he was worrying about next years draft that he wouldn't be thinking about current year...Seems smart & it also mentions that he's always wanted to go to college for 4 years...We will have to wait & see, if he ends up staying all 4 years. I just hope he has an outstanding year this year...& the rest will take care of itself!

I believe that WRs have rarely won the Heisman.

I'm all for Calvin for Heisman, but it is rarely awarded to wide receivers. Now, if Tech would make an unexpected run at the top national ranking fueled by Calvin, that would be a compelling story.

Compelling, indeed, however IF GT were to make a run at the NC, Reggie would be a more likely candidate than CJ, IMO, because it would mean that RB would have had an amazing turnaround in his stats.

I've thought about Calvin's Heisman chances a lot, and I think that he needs one "big" numbers year to get into Heisman consideration, which would be 06, and then would need 07 to make an actual run at the Heisman.

I honestly think that if he comes back for his 4th year, that it would be to win a Heisman trophy.

Yeah, that's typically the kind of thing it takes to win a Heisman. That's why I thought Reggie would be a more likely candidate (in the unlikely case of GT being in the NC hunt) as he's received a lot of publicity over the years for beating Auburn, Miami, and some other upsets.
