Calvin !!

[ QUOTE ]
Your dead on, why in God's Green Earth can we not hit one of the biggest, fastest players in the country in stride on a long post pattern?????? This high school JV crap of throw it up high to the tallest player and let his out jump everyone is BS.

[/ QUOTE ]

Unless CJ has a breakout year, he has not lived up to his talent while on the flats. That is the sad reality. This is definitely not a knock on him because he's probably the most talented receiver in the country. So, you have to blame Gailey, our system, and our qb. This could be used against us when recruiting big time players...judging by us not even filling our allotment with recruits and a class ranked #50, maybe it was. who knows.

I just want to see Reggie hit Calvin IN STRIDE on a long post or fade pattern and have him take it to the house. Just once I'd like to see that!

[/ QUOTE ]

It's not happening because he can't make that throw. Plain and simple.

D@mm*t then get someone who can make the throw. This is D1 College Football, get the job done or find someone who can.

Gailey are you listening??

Why would he start doing that all of the sudden? Every year he's been here, Gailey has produced the same mediocre results, same blah bowls, same qb, same everything (NCAA probation was something new, however)...not sure why some think that zebra will suddenly change its stripes.

Don't forget about Flunkgate. That was pretty new too. Oh wait...I'm not supposed to blame Gailey for Flunkgate. He's not supposed to take care of his personnel.

Y'all act like Gailey isn't even trying to recruit good players. He tries and tries very hard. They just go to bigger football programs such as Ohio State, ND, and yes UGAy. Maybe it isn't Chan's fault at all, maybe it is the sh*ty fans fault who dis the players and coaching staff whenever an opportunity presents itself.

Also, recruits don't always pan out. Garner was suppose to be our saving grace at QB, but when it comes to making the plays in practice, Reggie still looks better. Another example is the kid at UGAy...The NUMBER 2 QB IN THE NATION...He showed up this spring chunky at #4 on the depth chart. He was given a fair shot to move up and win the starting job and at the end of spring practice is still #4 on the depth chart. He may be good one day as Garner may be, but to say Chan doesn't try to recruit QBs is an erroneous statement.

Go Jackets!!

This might be the most self conscious thought I have seen in a long time.
Men don't get paid $1mm to try really hard. There are no excuses at one mil per year, and I would bet Chan Gailey would be the first to strongly endorse that.

This is not about fans (me) "dissing" CG, far from it.
As long as Tech is in the big leagues of college football, there will be expectations to meet.
If #1 is not the #1 quarterback this year, I will be convinced that DR has had a strong say in that "decision" by Chan.
I also expect that trying really hard will be removed from all job descriptions, and the key word will be results.

pure and simple, Reggie can not get the ball to Calvin. Period. Yet Gailey will not give anyone else a chance to get the ball to Calvin. Question mark. If I were getting paid 1 Mil a year to coach at Ga Tech, one of the hallowed halls of college football, I would work without sleep, work without end until I gave it my absolute best effort and I would expect the same from my players and if one couldn't get the job done I would patt him on the butt and give somebody else a try. And if I could not get it done in 5 freakin' years, I would apologize profusely and then get the hell out of the way for somebody else to try....

I am not a Chan-basher, but I no longer respect the MAN because it appears to me that he is "treading water"...

He tries hard? He TRIES hard???!!! Bless his little ol' heart for not getting the job done because he tries hard? ..and now its a few fans fault (on an internet message board of all places) for being critical of a multi-million dollar staff whose JOB it is to put a quality product on the field? do you even realize how foolish this sounds? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugher.gif

Wanting to see Reggie hit Calvin in stride is exactly what I want. But, I have a different, unpopular take on that subject.

Calvin is a great talent. He uses his height well, has great leaping ability, tremendous reach, great hands. But, I think he is average at best at running routes. I hope this is an area of great improvement this off season. Some of Reggie's weak throws to CJ are sometimes the result of a poorly run route.

I hope coaches get CJ running more precise routes and Reggie throwing more balls that lead him correctly. I would love to see slants, curls, hitch and gos, and posts run well at high speed, and then we can see if Reggie can get it to him.

I think Clavin, Reggie, and coaches are way to content to run 3/4 speed routes, throw it up for grabs, and trust that Calvin will get his share.

Think back to the speed at which a Kelly Campbell or Kerry Watkins came across the middle. Until I see Calvin moving like that and then see Reggie throw behind him, I am unwilling to place all the blame on Ball.
