Can we move the ball?

Worst offense I have seen in a long time!! Is that the best we have to offer qb-wise? Ewwwww!! He is a terrible passer. Our OC not much better.

The best aspect of the game was the running of Hollings. The worst part of the game was the injury to Hollings. This was a very ugly game by both sides, however, a win is a win.

The offense has no imigination. There are some very real problems here. Suggs is innefective, and I am not convinced all of it is his fault. The play calling is atrocious. The poor play calling may well be to the disadvantage of Suggs and even Bilbo, were he allowed to play. The announcers on TV were making the same remarks about the inept play calling by O'Brien.

I have to make a comparison with something, therefore, I must bring up Friegden's name again. I believe both Suggs and Bilbo would be much better QBs under Friegden. Each game that passes is soldifying my thoughts about O'Brien not being adept at teaching and correcting QBs. I still call for Gailey to place the QBs under Nix.

The defense plays too loose in the first part of the games. They seem to stiffen and play more closely in the second halves. I wish Tenuta would have them play closer to the receivers in the first half.

Our tackling is atrocious. We are not locking up the runners, they are breaking through tacklers for huge crucial gains. Hargrove played great today. He really made up for the loss of Gathers, but we need for the other ends to become more productive.

The special teams coach needs to work more on our downing of punts around the goal line. We lost some more opportunities there today.

It is also becoming evident to me, the receivers coach is not teaching the receivers how to place distance between themselves and the defenders. Our receivers are not performing nearly as well as they did under Kelly. Maybe, I will have to concede this item to BeeWare, if the receivers do not improve.

Gailey! Either get more involved with the offense or place it under Nix.

I don't agree on the receivers comments. I think the problem is the routes. As the TV announcers said we run the same routes over and over and all are outs. How hard is it to cover someone when you know where they are going? I'm beginning to think all our concerns about O'Leary holding BOB back last year were off base. Looks like this is his offense. If we are going to be a running team anyway, we might as well put Bilbo in, at least he can run.

Ahso, I agree with your analysis except receivers. The ball is never thrown in the right place and they look like they do not have confidence in where the ball is going to be thrown. He either throws it behind them so they have to come back therefore they cannot gain anything after the catch, or the throws it too high just off the fingertips (they should be able to catch some of those). Sometimes the passes are where NOBODY is. If it is the route-running, that can be easily fixed. But I have a feeling AJ is panicking back there and just throws it.

Perhaps some things just cannot be taught. Either you have it or you don't, and I am fearful of the latter.

Bizzybee and ncjacket, I am not adamant that the problem is with the receivers coach, but it is evident something is wrong here. You may also be correct, it could be the lack of confidence in the passer or the passes are not very accurate.

I think we do agree, there is a lot of work to be done in this area.

Definitely agree we have problems in the passing game. Not being a coach (my brother is) I hesitate to try to be too specific about remedies but it does seem to me we run the same routes, nothing to the middle of the field, very little 3 step drop quick passes, almost nothing to the TE and nothing really to RBs (not counting the little swing passes). Don't know if the QBs can't or if we keep checking out of those calls or what. I see real problems if we don't present a more diversified passing attack. Even if Tony were to come back full strength sooner or later people just stack the line and dare us to throw.
