Anybody else watch our nose guard play?

I believe we had 1 tackle from the spot and all the offseason talk about improvement seems to be the same as it was last year (Logan Walls would still start).

Very little penetration - even one-on-one, not many double teams.

This was game 14 of last season, except we do not have any WR's.

Nt in a 3-4 won't rack up tackle stats. Not bothered by this. Just need penetration and to control double teams. And honestly if you watch again we did ok. Wasn't bad. Wasn't great.

TJ was getting winded and not getting a whole lot of penetration, but he was certainly not getting pushed around like usual.

Honestly I thought we were improved in that we weren't getting constantly gashed up the middle. :dunno:

Then again maybe I just have low expectations.

Ok, I watched quite a bit of nose, but must have missed it (or been seeing what I expected to see). May have caught Barnes before helmet taps. Saw Greene make a play or two. Don't remember much ILB success up the middle.

My only problem with our defense is with the players who cost themselves playing and a safety that hasn't improved ever.

DL was fine tonight. Depth is a big problem though, I think we only played four guys up there all game (Barnes, Dieke, Cummings, Cross).

In the 3-4, the DL is supposed to occupy OL so that the LB's can make plays. They weren't getting pushed off the ball, so they did there job.

Just watched the first drive:

Play 1 - TJ on the stunt, slow developing on a deep ball, not a factor
Play 2 - TJ loses ground on a screen (no double team)
Play 3 - TJ blocked out by one, finished by a double
Play 4 - TJ dominates the center 1-on-1 and pressures QB (incomplete)
Play 5 - TJ loses significant ground 1-on-1
Play 6 - 3rd and 11 - no NG

Play 1 - Cross holds ground 1-on-1
Play 2 - Cross holds ground on double team
Play 3 - Quick slant, no factor
Play 4 - Cross singled, run goes other way
Play 5 - Cross holds ground on single, LB make tackle (Job done, but 1st down VT)
Play 6 - Cross blocked by single, run goes other way
Play 7 - Cross jumps in the lane of a quick slant
Play 8 - 3rd and 11 - No Nose
Play 9 - TJ back in - I think he reads the run based on the oline, but lost his feet and missed the tackle (may have gotten a shoestring)
Play 10 - TJ singled, Holmes runs at him, he sheds the block, but misses on an arm tackle.
Play 11 - TJ tries swim move, but timing route pass (incomplete)
Play 12 - TJ doubled on TD pass

The first two drives had flashes, especially Cross. Anybody point to a series (or correct me). I am fine with admitting that I missed something.
