Can WO QB Calvin Booker push Taylor Bennett?

Well, he may not be pushing Bennett right now, but he most certainly is pushing Ingram & Threet. Booker may actually be zeroing in on the #2 QB position. Very good competition Calvin is bringing to this QB spot this Spring & should keep everyone on their toes. Just a thought, but why don't the coaches move Kyle Manley to FB or TE?
Here's the Day 5 practice report from Scout.com with the nice blurb on young Mr Booker.

Holy cow! Here's a snipet from Day 6 with another accolade to young Mr B;

Just a guess, but Manley is only 210 on the roster at 6'2". If that's close, he's too light for either FB or TE. In HS his 40 time was 4.85 so I don't know that he's fast enough for either position either.

Kyle Manley ....

is much more likely to move to asst. coach than either FB or TE.

I would say that Threet represents a good RS opportunity for Tech. I know a bit early to say, but sounds like we are pretty deep at QB now. Nezbitt is coming this summer? How many, if any, QB's would we consider RS?ing

Holy cow! Only 21 pounds to go and he might be NFL material. He's already faster and taller than John Abate but doesn't quite have the nose for the football yet. Maybe before next years combine. You never know. :-))

Since

Bennett, Manley, Booker & Ingram have already used their RS yr that only leaves Threet & Nesbitt as RS possibilities. Ya gotta figure that they both RS.

Every one keeps calling this guy a walk on - and he is - but there is a little more to the story.

He was pretty well thought of coming out of high school and (I think) we gave him an offer then. Auburn also gave him an offer and he took that one. He ended up 3rd on the depth chart and decided to give GT a chance, at which point Chan and Co. told him to walk on and try to get some PT and a new scholarship.

Then we signed Threet and Nesbitt.

But Booker is not some unknown. He's a quality athlete. Good enough to unseat the rest? I don't know. But certainly he has the the physical tools of a D1 QB.

He's a HOPE scholarship kid, if I'm not wrong, so he's not out in the cold without a scholarship from the athletic program.

I think he's a good guy also. I'd love to see him do well.

From what I've heard at this point (remember it's still early in spring practice), Bennett is clearly the best QB, and Booker is in good position to be #2, but that far from a conclusion. Ingram may yet have something to say about that. Threet is looking like a redshirt so far.

After looking at several blogs, seems to me Threet may be redshirted and Nesbitt changed to another position.Either way we finally seem to have talent playing at quarterback.

From What I Can Tell...

Bennett has continued his development, and should be a strong performer for us this fall. I was worried, but far less so now.

Booker shows experience but rustiness. He's not as advanced as Bennett, but he could easily turn out to be our second option if Bennett goes down. I was skeptical, but far less so now.

Ingram may have turned the corner, but it will be hard for him to catch the other two this year.

Threet is talented but young. I hope he redshirts, because a 5th year Threet should be a thing of beauty.

We have not seen Nesbitt in white and gold, so it is premature to say what he can or can't do. Chan talked about using the dimensions he adds as a true freshman, and still might. However, with where Bennett and Booker are right now, Chan does not have to. We'll see. That's what fall ball is all about.

Quarterbacking is deep and should be a team strength for as far as the eye can see.

Hey NC, my conspiratorial view on the qb situation of last year has only gotten more firmly entrenched.

Just thought you would like to know. ;)

This guy can start for a number of D1 schools and practically everything else besides D1.

Our depth at QB right now is a real treat (and where it should be. congrats CCG and staff!)

No Fear, ladies and gentlemen. No Fear.

about damn time
