at 6-1 this year in the ACC?

I don't think you can. I don't think it really matters who looks better and whatnot, it seems like this year the hot team falls after about 4 wins. FSU has had their 4. UVA has had 4 now. GT HAD their 4+ wins. They both (FSU and UVA) could very well lose this Saturday, which would be GREAT for GT. Also, the higher ranked team in the ACC has gotten beat the week of getting the ranking. First, VT at 18, then GT at 16, now there's FSU at 16. GT coming off a loss, the trend in the weird ACC, and the fact that GT is underdogs in some places could be a game winning mentality just because of sheer happenstance this year.

Just wanted to see what you all felt like. Crazy year. I believe obviously a two loss team will be good enough this year to win the Coastal and probably the Atlantic and inevitably the ACC, I just don't see UVA winning out. I think they lose 2 more IMO. Bad year to be the hot team. I hope GT got it out of their system and can show the nation, THEY CAN DO IT!

I don't think Georgia Tech will win out in the ACC. But if we did, we would eliminate every team besides UVA and VT in the process. Then, the most likely scenario (imo) putting us in the ACCCG would be as follows:

(1) VT loses to either Maryland or @Miami.

(2) UVA loses to either Miami or @Wake or Clemson.

(3) VT beats UVA in Blacksburg.

If we win out, I think we actually have a better than 50% shot to win the Coastal. Problem is that I don't think we'll win out.

But you know, despite how cautious I am, based on what I know I am willing to bet that Coach Johnson and the team believe they will win out.

:ugh:

You just witnessed me talking myself back into believing.

:pat:

I want people to believe again. I certainly do think that PJ and the team thinks they can win out. I don't see why we can't. Look at it this way, as long as we don't fumble we don't really lose any, problem is we have. It just depends. I don't really count us out. Not this season, that's my point. Hard not to. This may sound stupid, maybe it is (I have had my head in the Federal Income Tax book for about 4 hours now) but I think we have lost at the right times this year. He have 4 games left. We won 4 in a row before. Two humbling losses. I don't see why this team doesn't think they can win. I am cautiously optimistic, I don't know where the crazy trend ends, but I think the team will see that they cannot give up after going up 14-3 anymore. They're learning and it could be that they've learned it by now.

GUT CHECK.

I'll be ecstatic if we finish 8-4...which was my optimistic goal for the season and should get us into an east coast bowl game.

If we win this weekend you can bet the house that this board will go right back into threads about the ACCCG. And all threads comparing this team to past teams will be ghosts.

Football fanbases are like daily stock market coverage by the media.

One day:
"Market in rut!"

Next day:
"Market soars!"

You are buying into the whole "the acc sucks" mantra the sports media people having been spewing the last few months. Tool.

I wouldn't be buying into it if a team that got butchered by Duke and Uconn, wasn't going to play in the ACC Championship Game.

I don't think the ACC sucks, I just think there are no top 10 teams and the rest are pretty comparable. It wouldn't surprise me for any ACC team (except maybe NC State) to beat any team ranked from 10-25 nationally.

Oh we've definitely got parity. There's no denying that.

i can't believe there's another 'if we win out' pontification thread. did last week teach you anything ?

I don't think that there's anything wrong with thinking that we could win out. Our 2 losses are by 3 and 7 points, and the most we've given up all season is 24. It's not like we've gone out and had our tails kicked.

We might can beat FSU and Miami. I'll be surprised if UNC doesn't hand us our hat. UGAg could be ugly. I hope we win 'em all. Especially the mutts.

Lose out = bad.

Win one more game = grumble about depth.

Win two more games = expectations.

Win two more games, one of which is FSU = pleasantly exceeding expectations.

Win three more games = seriously exceeding expectations.

Beat UGA = elation.

I don't expect the UGAG game to be "ugly". I've watched about 30 of these contests, and blowouts are the exception. There's no reason to think this will be any different. South Carolina and Vanderbilt played them close and Duke beat Vanderbilt. CPJ understands the importance of that game to the fans and will bring a team ready to match up. Trust me.

Lose the Rest.

+

Beat Georgia.

=

Success.

I've been saying this since Gailey was fired and I continue to stand by it. This will be a successful season if we beat Georgia and prevent them from tying our streak.
