GT has won at least 7 games for 10 years in a row. We fired CG for winning only 7 games/yr and not beating UGAy.
Which head coach can win 8 games/year against Freigen, Richt, Beamer, Groh, Grobe, Tommy Bowden, Bobby Bowden, Butch Davis, Tom O'Brien?
Muschamp - POSITIVES: firey, went to Darlington, good experience as a DC at LSU and Awbun, could recruit GA well
NEGATIVES: No HC experience, UGAy grad (which is divisive), a DC rather than an OC, a real gamble as to if he could win 8 games/yr and beat UGAy
Hatcher - POSITIVES: wide open offense, OC, been a HC, from GA, could recruit GA well
NEGATIVES: Div 1-A HC for only 1 year; a moderate gamble as to if he could win 8 games a year and beat UGAy.
P. Johnson - POSITIVES: An OC, many years as a HC, won NC at GA Sou, turned Navy around and won there, recruited with very real restrictions, could recruit GA well, probably could win 8 games/year and beat UGAy (question is how often)
NEGATIVES: has run a triple option at Navy, not very exciting speaker, can he develop a qb?
My personal opinion is that WM is a far left field choice. There have been many a coordinator with potential and few succeed.
Hatcher is a risk but an acceptable one.
Johnson is the best option of the three to succeed. He's done it before a bunch.
The complaint might be why we didn't look at other candidates but not that we chose PJ form this group, IMO...
