I always knew the canes had a pretty poor fanbase, for the most part in recent years..... but I didn't realize it was this bad!

Attendance for 2005 homes games was as follows: ( and keep in mind, the orange bowl holds 72,319 while BDS@HGF holds 55k respectively.)

Colorado 51,228
South Florida 58,308
Duke 40,315
UNC 30,618
GT 53,764
UVA 37,629

let's show them what 55,000 screamin jackets sound like for 60 minutes on saturday!

They have the most fair weather fans in the whole country and those dismal attendance stats are proof. I would guarantee that since 2002(the last time they went to the NC game) their attendance has dropped. Very, very sad.

Last year they averaged 55,000 per game. I think they are staying away in droves because of Coker and the team's poor performance. This is their worst team in 25 years.

I will say they are the most hard to please fans I've ever seen. I went to a Thursday night game in the Orange Bowl when they played West Viginia three years ago. Brock Berlin was the Miami qb. Miami barely won in the last 30 seconds. The fans were screaming bloody murder. They constantly yelled that Berlin suxed. When Walter Payton's kid fumbled the ball they said he suxed and all he ever did was fumble.

The most spoiled crowd I've ever seen. It's a MNC for them or the team suxs. Nothing inbetween...

Yeah the Miami fans down here are very fair weather, most of them didn't go to school at Miami (or anywhere else for that matter), they don't know the fight song and only show up for FSU. I have a friend who has season tickets and he doesn't attend the noon games because he says it's too hot. Miami has to be the only powerhouse program in the country that doesn't have a waiting list for season tickets and practically begs people to buy them.

99.99% of them couldn't get accepted into UM. I remember how some of them looked the first year Tech played UM at BDS. We were walking to the stadium behind a group of UM fans that were decked out in tattoos and bling-bling. They looked more like gang members, than football fans.

The Canes parallel us in some ways

Miami is a smallish school in a major metropolitan area that is more focused on professional sports than on college. Their stadium is located close to downtown where parking is not the easiest thing in the world. UM graduates tend to disperse around the country rather than stay in the immediate vicinity. The school also has something of an elitist image (or maybe that is 'rich kid'), at least in regard to the average student who attends.

Given these challenges, compounded by the fact the Orange Bowl is quite large and a fair distance from the UM campus, I can see why they have trouble getting sellouts. Another problem is the sheer distance of Miami from most of their opponents. Few fans of the visiting team make the trip. I attended a game there some years ago when #1 Miami beat #2 Oklahoma. #1 vs #2 and the game was not sold out! It was hot as hades that afternoon too.

I always say Miami is the best visiting team in America. No opponent seems to bring out the local fans like 'evil' Miami does when they come to town. However, as a home team the Canes can only count on sellouts when FSU or the Gators come to the Orange Bowl.

Miami doesnt have the history that a lot of the programs in the south do. There football team is relatively new compared to something like Florida or Alabama. There fan base consists of a lot of younger generation people.

scUM fans are of this mindset: either win the NC game or we won't fill up the orange bowl. Very sad IMO. Like others have said, their fans are a bunch of thugs who probably did not go to scUM.

Like I said in various posts, please everyone bring your gun to the game on Saturday, it is in your best interest.

What struck me visually about the um crowd in '04, was the number of "adults" wearing um football jerseys, ala nfl fans.

BTW, why do adults wear football jerseys to watch football games?

I like wearing jerseys to the game. At at place like GT where the crowd never does have that whole "color" thing going, it ensures you wear the team colors. Clemson was nothing but orange, orange, orange. I wish fans came to BDS organized like that. Yellow collared shirts and navy blue t-shirts don't really do it for me.

I would find it funny to see someone get a pair of real "yellow britches", and wear those with a polo shirt.
That would be original. Or would it?

All I know is I remember from 2 years ago that gorgeous brunette walking around in the Miami Jersey and high heels... and nothing else (visible anyway). It was a treat for the eyes.

Me too - I wear Godsey and my son wears Little Joe.

Well, unless you wear a Colloseum or Russell or half of the other garbage out there that our AA has licensed ...

Unfortunately, they are mostly transplants from NY/NJ who wouldnt appreciate college ball if it came with a bagel and a schmear of cream cheese.
