It's very possible that he did. They were very close to maxxing it out when he signed. Granted, they weren't going to turn down additional donations, but his could very well have put it over the top.

Yeah I rolled my eyes a bit at that too. They didn't even give the, "You're not going to believe this, but I swear this actually happened" little story to acknowledge how crazy it would be if it really happened that way.

Also, any competent AD in this situation would have secured enough large money donations to ensure we would meet the initial target before announcing it, then spread them out just enough so we hit it quickly but it still looks organic. That way people get excited and in the spirit when you up the target.

That said, it seems Batt is competent, it's great news that we've raised so much so far and the school is matching, and I'm off to donate myself now (it worked!)

Cabrera specifically mentioned this in Key's presser - I'm guessing you didn't see it. You can't fake the reaction Key showed after Cabrera shared that.

Yes, I was kind of like... "did you really just share that?" It was a good move to show his buy-in, but not sure CBK expected to hear that.
