11. Georgia Tech 2008 Record: 9-4 2008 Final CFN Season Rank: 22
Paul Johnson’s first year might have ended in a disaster with the Peach Bowl blowout against LSU, but it’s easy to forget just how many square pegs had to fit into round holes to make the offense work. The defensive line will be the early concern losing top NFL prospects Michael Johnson and Vance Walker, but the back seven returns intact. Of course, it’s all about the offense, and QB Josh Nesbitt and RB Jonathan Dwyer are a year more experienced after playing so well late. All 11 starters return to an offense that should be even more dynamic.

If this trend continues we will be fairly high ranked, with some pretty high expectations, and if things go well, be talked about in the national title picture. I don't want to jinx us though, so I'm not saying we are MNC contenders.

I remember a certain Oklahoma team starting the year at the No. 11 spot, so stranger things have happened.

This ranking concerns me a little. CFN typically shows us more love than most. Over the years when they have ranked us highly in the preseason we have underperformed and vice versa. Let's hope this trend doesn't continue...I have a hunch CPJ will not let it!

This coming season, I am going to take it one game at at time. While I think that we should win our division and have a good chance of winning the ACC as a whole, I am not going to publicly castrate the man if that does not come to fruition.

The important thing is:

1) How high are we going to be ranked on NCAA 2010?
2) What speed ratings are Josh, JD, Roddy, and AA going to get?

Anyone notice that they place us at #11 as well as label us as a "team that should be about the same". Wonder where we could get to if we improve by their standars :D

Edit: Also agree a bit more with VT's ranking in this poll than some of the others. I think some polls are putting them at like 5 and 6 just cause they Orange Bowl, though I suppose it would be better for us. Also, it's not like polls are meant to show how a team compares to other teams at the current time. If it did I wouldn't put VT as being that better a team than us, maybe two places at most.

VPISU is a team that I'm not sold on, but I'm also worried about. They didn't show anything particularly inspiring over the last few weeks of the season, other then making Duke and UVA look better then they were, and then winning a horrid Orange Bowl. But, they also will be the marquee ACC team again this year, and Beamer must be blowing Swofford to get all the breaks they do. So yes, VPISU won some games, won a BCS bowl, and I can justify them getting a high ranking, but at the same time, it seems to me like it is a place holder.

Yeah it felt the same way to me. Not that I don't think they are around our level, but right now they are averaging around #6. Maybe it's to cushion their upcoming loss to Alabama.

On that note, I hope that VPI beats 'Bama. That will give the conference a little boost early in the season and it will make it that much sweeter when beat them.

You want it, we want, everyone wants it, their mothers want it, even their second cousins want it, but not their sisters. No, that'd break the ratio and cause a Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy level collapse of the universe.

O, while we're on that subject, remember to root for Miami against Oklahoma as well.

I always root for the ACC after Tech unless somehow it hurt tech for someone else in conference to win, but now with the ACC having a championship game, I doubt that things would play out in a way that would be advantageous for Tech to have another ACC team lose.

Honestly I was mostly agreeing with these rankings, until they put UNC at number 9:

Do I think they should get a preseason ranking? Yeah, probably. Do I think a team whose only victory after beating us was against Duke should place in the top 10? No...

These guys don't pay any serious attention outside the Top 10 or 'the chosen ones.' Them or any of the other prognosticators. Nice token gesture though.

Bama is on the rise. As much as I don't care about the Tide, they're gonna be getting better for awhile.
