CFN.scout.com Predicts the starting lineups of all ACC teams

Looks to be a fair guess for Tech...

It appears someone may actually have put some time into an article they published.

I was just happy they didn't list a TE on our starting lineup. At least they know the formation.

Man alive, our D looks young. Yeesh. I'm having 1999 flashbacks.

I think Greg Smith earns a starting spot at A-back. If he doesn't he will get serious PT.

I think Cord Howard or AJ Smith beat out Gilbert at one guard spot. In fact I don't think the OL position is close to being settled outside of Gardner and Voss.

Jamaal Evans needs to prove a willingness to block hard to win that spot as well.

If Marcus Wright lives up to the hype he'll definately be on the field (if he can block of course).

On paper, whose starters look stronger than ours?
I would say Clemson, Va Tech, FSU
I think we are definitely stronger than BC, Md, NCSU, Duke, and UVA
I would say we are pretty close to UNC, Wake, and Miami

I like our 3 starter candidates at A-Back. I think it will probably be a situation where there isn't really 2 starters, but 3 equal guys, much like our receiver rotation last year with J.Johnson, G.Smith, and Bebe (and maybe Earls too). But, I think I heard CPJ likes to use/rotate 4 A-Backs, so that means another would need to be found (my guess is Andrew Smith or Tyler Evans, with the freshmen redshirting). Then again, I'm sure he could adjust that down to 3 if he thinks it's best.

Do you mean Tyler Evans, I think Tyler Davis is just kicking now?

I think one of the freshman (Peeples or Wright) will get quality PT if they have "homerun hitter" ability.

None of our current A-backs have "take it to the house from anywhere on the field" speed. I know Jamal had the long run at T-day but that was really just great downfield blocking and good vision. There is a lot of great hype about Roddy, but I haven't heard he has "breakway" speed. I cannot remember Greg Smith making anyone miss and then out running them to the endzone as a receiver.

If one of the freshmen has this I think it will be hard to keep them off the field in CPJ's offense.

Thoughts?

To be fair, we'd have to complete some passes for that to happen.

That Tulsa decommit has it. Dude is stupid fast in open space.

Yeah, that guy. (too lazy to look it up) That guy is going to be insanity. Look up his highschool stats. If he hadn't committed to Tulsa early, he'd have been 6 star all-world teh ubar. Set the Texas 5A record for career offensive yards and single season offensive yards if I recall correctly .... as an option pitch guy.

We have the LEAST amount of senior starters in the league.

Maryland has the most.

Our youth on defense really, really scares me. Last time I can recall we were this young (please correct me if I'm wrong) was 99. I have nightmares about our 99 defense.

Ted Roof. From BlackWatch to Black Hole Defense.

I used to think the same thing, but a little birdie from Stingtalk told me over a couple of martinis one night that Roof got shafted by George. Roof supposedly was going to run a 3 5 3 blitzing scheme that would take advantage of our players a lot better, and George scrapped it a week before our first game and overrode Roof's playcalls.

I am particularly concerned about pass defense and youth at the LB position

Morgan Burnette and Derrick Morgan will play like upper classmen, so I'm not worried about them. The strength of our DL will help our young LBs play the run game, but young LBs often struggle in defending the pass.

In the secondary, Jahi & Burnette will be solid. Tarrant is talented, but there's always a big learning curve at corner, and Reese is relatively unknown. I'm not sure who our nickel/dime guys will be, but they won't have a ton of experience.
