"You've got to execute that (play), if you're going to win," Tech coach Chan Gailey, as angry as he's been at any point this season. "I'm disappointed in the execution of our players." http://www.macon.com/mld/macon/sports/4850642.htm

While CG is bashing his players in the newspaper, I wonder if he is disappointed in his preparation of his coaching staff and team? I have yet to hear him blame himself for any of the failures of this year.

So, basically, CG is blaming the players for being unprepared?

O'Leary use dto do the same thing. Also included statements like "only 3 of our players could start at FSU". I.E. you guys aren't very talented. Did you bash O'Leary too?

I will repeat the same thing I said during O'Liars tenure. He is nothing without the Fridge. This proved to be true when Fridge left.

Nothing might be a little strong, but I agree he ain't much without him. Timing is everything, but maybe O'Liar left a year too late for us.

I was disappointed in the execution myself. Bridges had a 10 yard cushion on that play and the throw was a relatively simple one that Joe and Goose use to do with their eyes closed.

Joe didn't execute very well as a rs.freshman. May or may not have completed the pass at that age. Godsey didn't play until his jr. year. Bilbo might have done better if he had gotten more experience during the year. As far as aj goes I don't care if he gives up football!

Don't get me wrong......that is what you are going to get when you play a young QB. That said, I had no problem with the call. We had not run the ball for most of the second half and Bilbo has problems getting the snap cleanly when he is under center. If executed properly, the play was an easy first down.

It is up to the quarterback coach to prepare the QBs and correct their mistakes and procedures.

Last year we had a QB, Godsey, already trained by a previous coordinator.

Do you think the quality of the QB play increased from the beginning of the season or has deterioated since the beginning of the season?

If you are speaking of AJ Suggs, yes his play has declined. However, AJ's QB skills will only alow him to be sucessful if we have a strong running game. In that scenario he can benefit from play action. AJ does not have the skills to carry a team ala Joe Hamilton or the instinctual understanding of the offense of a George Godsey. I think after Hollings went down the staff was stuck between a rock and a hard place. They could play AJ and hope he would be able to make enough plays and sustain the team or play Bilbo and endure great plays coupled with an equal number of bad plays. Could the coaches have done a better job. Sure they could. However, the circumstances I described above limit how effective we could have been even if the staff had done a better job with the QBs.

I live in a dream world...

Wasn't it one of Dodd's principals never to blame (publically) the players?

Times certainly have changed.

Then you guys are living in a dream world. On one hand we want CG to take the blame for everything. On the other hand we want him to be tougher on players (see the posts on him saying AJ was the QB). Can't have it both ways. You want to know what he's thinking but only if it is self-criticism.

FWIW I didn't read the comments as blaming players so much as stating the obvious. The first line is clearly about one play, but he was talking about the team as a whole IMO because that one play certainly didn't lose the game. Our execution was horrible. What's he supposed to say?

"execution of our players" - did he mean players got executed? Freudian slip, perhaps. S/b "execution by our players".

Has anyone stopped to think that "the execution or lack there of" may be his fault. Aren't you suppose to coach execution and plays! It's a job coach ... start working at your job and maybe this will get better!!!!

MsTechAnalysis - yes its the coach's job to see that execution improves. To a certain extent coaching can improve a player's ability or likelihood of making a play, but in the end analysis the kid has to do it or he needs to be replaced by someone who will. Coaching can only do so much IMO. Players make plays.

Now there are differences in that certainly. I would put AJs failure to throw the ball away at the end of the first half as a much worse problem than the 4th and 1. AJ has been around enough that you can't say it was a mistake from inexperience. Whether the problem on the 4th and 1 was with DeBo or LB they are both freshmen so it's a little more understandable.

Coaches are always responsible for what the player does or does not do.If he doesn't produce the coach should not have put him in that position or should taught him how to be successful.PERIOD.
